It makes you want to watch the movie.
I dont mind series being based on movies if its going to be something of value to the story. What they've done here is in the first episode, cover like 30 percent of the movie in the syfy channel manner. So we already know whats going to happen... its going to turn into a video game RPG. From now on, each episode will have... five to ten percent of the actual story and 95 to 90 percent will be stupid missions to go off and find a hair brush for sally so she will give you the key, which you need to get into the treasure chest, so you can get the crown and bring it to the king so he can tell you what to do next.

I did not expect much from this show, but i didnt expect it to piss me off the way it did. Ive had a day to think about it now, but last night i could have shoved a baseball bat up the producers ass.

I ended up watching it and maybe it's just that it's been about ten years since I last saw the film but I thought they did a pretty good job. An excellent job given how gutter low my expectations are for anything with the tag "Syfy original". Production value was good. Knowing that this thing has a definite end point with no real reason or possibility of extending the base narrative still makes it a dubious undertaking, unless they just automatically figured they had one or two seasons max, and that'd be really stretching it, before it's just done.

They really changed the phone message, the tone of it, I thought. And the whole paradox thing I thought was a bit hoaky. If it was going to happen at all, if we're gonna go there, it would be instantaneous. That whole build up to critical with two copies of the same thing was just silly though. It also created a new paradox that's untenable. What used to be a very tight, fairly self-consistent time travel story became something more along the lines of JJ Abrams territory.

Given that The Terminator and Twelve Monkeys share their inspiration I couldn't help but feel like the writers were maybe riffing on some of the dialog and tone from the former more than the later.

Foyle's War
...started watching it tonight. It's a BBC series set in (currently) 1940, in England, before the US is involved. Basically a buddy cop series with an older police detective who's driven around by a young lady from the army's motor pool.

I'm having major Clone Club withdrawal.

I was a fan of the original movie. Not a die-hard, it can do no wrong, fan.. but I appreciated it for what it was.

This TV show is a hands down no-fucks-given abomination. I mean, honestly. . imagine if a college film crew did a follow up to Dark City.. and the only thing that they did for the entire plot was alter one slight bit so that they could open it up for a series. I can imagine that there are people who will keep this series alive... but good God, if you have ANY respect for the original movie/story.. do not support this series.

I don't agree at all. This seems more like you're reacting to how non-Gilliam it is more than what is or isn't changed from the actual story. The actual story is there, so far pretty intact (only seen first ep). It would have been a mistake for them to try and keep any hint of Gilliam because only Gilliam is Gilliam. This is a more straight-up, more accessible telling of the actual core story, which Gilliam took from the same French short that Cameron turned into The Terminator.

Someone who's a Terry Gilliam fan more than a fan of the actual film might have a bigger problem but that's a no-win. Removing Gilliam completely will piss them off. Trying to do him and inevitably failing will piss them off. The only course of action is to not even try and say "sod off" to the Terry Gilliam fans because there's a lot more people out there who like scifi who couldn't care less about Terry Gilliam's weird movies.

What I've seen so far is a fucking masterpiece compared to the shitball that is Gotham or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
