Watching Twin Peaks for the first time. I like it a lot, but I don't feel like it is some amazing, outstanding and immaculate show as everyone makes it seem. I love Ray Wise, Kyle MacLachlan, Richard Beymer, Piper Laurie and most of the actors, but my god are Donna and James fucking boring. It ruins the experience for me. I have a few episodes to go before I watch the new season which I have avoided spoilers at all cost

It was something that came along at that perfect moment in time... stars aligned... etc... etc... and for many TP was a force unto itself when it came to, maybe, aspects and particulars concerning the "whens" and "where's" of their lives back then. IMO the show doesn't age well at all.

Well, I agree and don't at the same time. I JUST finished the last episode of the original series. I do have to say that the second half of season two dragged on.

Some positives and negatives of the entire series..

Positives:
-Kyle MacLachlan is outstanding in this. Easily one of the coolest tv characters I have had the pleasure of watching. He was the perfect casting choice
-David Lynch and Miguel Ferrer were an absolute pleasure to watch. They were a blast to watch. Lynch gave each person a distinctive, yet fun, personality
-The story of who killed Laura Palmer was really throwing me for a loop for a while. I kept trying to think who would do it and when it was finally unveiled, it was like an Oh shit! moment I haven't gotten in a while.
-The characters of Leland Palmer and Benjamin Horne are up there as my favorite characters. Both actors put 110% into their roles. Ray Wise was brilliant and Richard Beymer seemed like he was having way too much fun playing a complete asshole.
-The first season and the first half of the second season were really good. Despite the lousy acting as Solo said, I think everything else was pretty on the money. It hasn't aged well at all, but I had a lot of fun.
-I hated Nadine in the first season, but her sudden super strength had me in stitches every time she was on screen.
-The characters I mentioned above, plus Andy, Lucy, Catherine, Windom Earle, Annie (because I wanted Cooper to be happy damn it), Pete and Bob were all really standout characters.
-The final episode was amazing. Completely David Lynch weird and it had me on the edge of my seat. It was so weird and unique and refreshing that it may be my favorite episode out of the entire run. It was just fantastic all around and had some general creepy ass moments. Plus that final shot of Dale Cooper. WHAT A CLIFFHANGER. I am glad I am watching it now when the new season starts. Although I heard the new season is TOO weird for its own good, but I'm still looking forward to it.
-The continuity of Laura Palmer telling Cooper that she will see him in 25 years and in twenty-something years it is back on again..with most of the original people is awesome to me.

Negatives:
-Pretty much everyone I didn't list. Bobby Briggs and Shelly were ok to start, but were just super annoying after a while. Harry Truman was really goofy to me and after the show ended I am still not sure if I liked him or not. He didn't have much of a personality, but he seemed like a friend you'd really want to have IRL. Hawk, Leo Johnson, Big Ed, Josie, Jerry, Blackie, and Jean Renault would have been great characters if they had better actors. Michael Parks as a frenchman? Come on. I just couldn't buy them and it took me out of the experience. Leo in season 2 was better and Big Ed was funny at times, but ugh, they were just bad to watch sometimes.
-Donna and James almost ruined the show for me. Their little love debacle almost made me stop watching. Neither of them cannot act out of a paper bag. In season 2 things got even worse with them as James was working on a car for a random woman that came out of NOWHERE (then James fucks off for the rest of the series?). Donna is now smoking and wearing sunglasses in season 2. James even mentions it to Maddy. Like, "What the hell is up with Donna lately?" It was just so weird. If those characters were completely emitted from the show, I would have had a better time. Just trash
-The second half of season 2 I feel had some decent characters and episodes, but felt like they were just randomly coming up with stuff to write about. I feel that the season should have ended with Laura Palmer and season 3 would have been that extra stuff. Maybe if they would have split it up Lynch and Frost could have come up with something feasible. I don't know the story as I am a Twin Peaks noob, but I just felt like it was off.
-Random loose ends that were weird to end on. Once again, I don't know the story but it seemed like Lynch wanted to do a season 3 much sooner than 25 years later.

All in all, I enjoyed the hell out of the show more as I kept watching. Season 2 was a struggle, but I kept going for Dale Cooper. The final episode was fantastic and really looking forward to the new season.

[Solo]

After watching the first 3 eps. of this latest Twin Peaks (season 3) I've decided to put it on hold for now. Going back instead and catching up on the original first two seasons after so long of a passage. Probably a good idea for those thinking about initially starting the series with season 3 currently running. Start at the beginning... otherwise too much inside baseball will be lost by starting with 3 and not having backstory and reference points.

Just finished season 1 with a nostalgic vibe still hanging in the air... love the quirks and story, but man oh man the show doesn't age well at all. Anybody thinking about starting it should prepare themselves for the mixed bag that it is. Some characters performed very well with casting spot on; while some others really seemed to be completely miscast from the get go.

Same thing can be said for acting. KM (Cooper) getting top nods all around along with a handful of others for doing decent to great performances. Others didn't fare so well. Quite a few came off as comical and/or forced, and on a few occasions some of them were almost painful to watch.

I am a pretty big fan of the show, first five seasons are the best it gets pretty spotty after that, last season I had watched was 12 and it is pretty epic, haven't caught the latest one yet.

We're up to season 4 and started digging it much more in season 2. Been primarily watching this and finally finished up F is for Family
