Freddy revealed for the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake!

It has been rumored for several weeks now, but THR finally confirms that actor Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children, Watchmen) will indeed be playing Freddy Krueger in the upcoming remake for A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The film will be directed by music video helmer Samuel Bayer, who describes this Freddy as "Nosferatu meets Ed Gaines." Check below for what else Bayer had to say about the actor:

"Looking at his performance in 'Watchmen,’ here’s a guy playing a character under a mask yet you feel tremendous empathy for him. And in Nightmare,’ he is going to be under prosthetic make-up. You have to feel something for the character. The greatest villains are multi-dimensional and I think he will bring that to the character."

Filming will begin on May 5th in Chicago, with a theatrical release set for April 16, 2010. You can find more details on the Nightmare on Elm Street remake here.

I first watched Watchmen with 0 knowledge about the story or series, but one thing when I saw it that I loved instantly was Rorschach, and I think Haley's performance is one of the reasons why.

I'm still skeptical about Nightmare being remade, but I now have one less thing to worry about it.
