Biggest budget ever for a horror flick?

Anyone know the answer to this? I wasn't really sure which area to post this at, but this seemed like an appropriate area.

I agree, but Hollywood is willing to put out more money for them now... so maybe we will get some good ones now...

I am praying for a Sam Raimi $100,000,000 Evil Dead 4 with Guillermo Del Toro directing.

I know your joking,b ut the reason this wouldn't work is not because Sam Raimi isn't quite what he used to be, or that Guillermo Del Toro is a bad director, in fact he's pretty amazing, but that the Evil Dead movies worked because they were low budget. AOD had a considerably larger budget, sure, but really, did anyone believe those fake skeletons for a minute? Giving it a huge budget may give it mroe freedom, but at the possible cost of its charm.

Well...that was off topic. Anyway, I'm not really sure what the biggest budget is. Really, I think it depends on what is considered horror. There's thrillers, and suspense, and then horror as well, its confusing for some so it may be hard to accuartely tell what has it.

A large budget does not equal a good movie. Quite a few "WTF" big budget films and impressive no-budget films to prove that point.

I always thought the charm of AOD (other than its fantasy/humor elements) were the special effects, it had a great 1960s feel to it... and I doubt Raimi's intentions were to convince the viewers that the effects looked real. It was a conscious choice to give a Jason and the Argonauts -vibe.

Also, it seems like almost every great horror film had small to modest-sized budget... even the very few films being released now that are destined to become classics have had small budgets.

Freddy vs. Jason had a $30 million budget according to boxofficemojo and wikipedia which I'm guessing is probably the biggest budget ever for a horror movie. Get Some said it was the TCM remake but that only had a $9.5 million budget according to the same two sources.

Isn't Alien vs. Predator considered a science fiction movie?

Yeah but it was the closest thing I could see with a high budget.
