Wes Craven - Love Him or Hate Him?

I dig him. He's not the best, but I don't hear his name and cringe.

I love New Nightmare, Shocker, People Under the Stairs, and Last House I thought was fantastic. Everything else ranged from decent to utter crap.

believe it probably depends on what demension You are on when You see his films holmes. On Acid or Shrooms or even some really good cali grown tree, most of the nightmares are watchable. If You ever visited New Orleans Serpent and The Rainbow woulda fxed U up. And Last House on The Left?? Are You talkin about the original?? WTF wasn't that a good movie, holmes? I bet his budget was less than what You got in Your bank right now. The soundtrack was retarded but, not as retarted as the soundtrack to Scarface and EVERYONE says thats a FKN classic. So, he might a been streaching on the scream thing but if we do live in a capitalist country and if You can make money on peoples shitty taste, I guess its a blessed event here. So Im told. Anyway, Lord Of Illusions and The Peeps Under the Stairs rocked. But, like I always say, MY OWN opinion. SFJ MMFWCL

but i visited new orleans many times and the movie still didn't fuck me up.
and all i do is drink so i can't depend on drugs to make a movie better because it sucked to begin with.
but yes this is my own opinion also.
also Lord of Illusions was not one of this films.
I did like Wishmaster though, i know he didn't direct it, but he produced it so.... there it goes.

I dig him, I mean he acknowledges that LHOTL was a terrible film, and I am sure if he watches Cursed he knows that is terrible as well. That being said I dig ANOES, the first Scream,Hills and others so i dig him.

I will always have a soft spot for Wes Craven because he's part of the reason I fell in love with the horror genre. A Nightmare on Elm Street was one of the first and ONLY films to scare me, and Scream was (and still is, in my opinion) a fun ride and very enjoyable. These two are a couple of my favorite films. I also enjoyed The Hills Have Eyes, The People Under the Stairs, and Last House on the Left. The only film he's done post-Scream that I enjoyed is Red Eye - which is a thriller, and was pretty much made by the two lead actors.

I also agree he isn't the best given he's made films like Cursed, Shocker, and Deadly Blessing. *sigh* Over-rated? Slightly, but he has made solid contributions to the horror genre.

I have no love for his work, nor do i hate it. Everything he's made has been at the very least watchable and entertaining to a degree. I not a fan, but if i see something with his name i'll at least check it out and most of his films are good enough to view more than once without losing the entertainment value... except Cursed... that movie sucked and i didn't even realize it was one of Craven's!!!

Something I just noticed about Craven is that he seemed to love using a Scooby-Doo method of capturing the bad guy(s) at the end of his films in the beginning of his career. The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, and A Nightmare on Elm Street have all booby traps set up for the boogieman at the end.

I think he has good ideas but i dont think he's that great of a director. IMO he is a much better writer than director.

i like NOES, people under the stairs, Scream series, new nightmare, and hills have eyes. most of his work after is really mediocre. But when it comes to overrated horror directors i think Tobe Hooper is at the top of the list. ya i said it, Tobe fuckin Hooper
