1974 is better but I own the remake and I dig Jessica Biel as well...as an actress I mean.

Which remake are we talking about? There's that shitty American remake that starred Biel, and then the French remade it except they changed the title to Frontier(s).
Not that it matters since the original is still better either way.

The original broke the barrier for the horror genre, it has left a permanent imprint in history because it was made into such a classic with so little, and that is something that cannot be achieved often. This film was produced with great financial struggle, Tobe Hooper relied on the creativity of his cast, crew and himself. It is unfortunate that it doesn't get as much credit as it deserves.
Yet I could never deny, I love the remake as well! It is flashy and obviously a mainstream high budget piece of eye candy, but it retains a great amount of the grit, grime and true horror that the original had.
When it comes down to it though... I'm Gunnar Hansen for life, baby!!!
