Twisted Pictures, the Genre Co. and Rat Entertainment have all teamed up with LightTower Entertainment to develop a remake of Charles Kaufman's cult classic 80's Troma film Mother's Day.
The original film revolved around three female friends who go camping and run into two brothers, who engage in murder and rape to impress their deranged mother.
Saw sequel director Darren Lynn Bousman is attached to direct from a script by Scott Milam, about the villainous family from the original, who return to their old home to discover that has been taken over by new owners. Now the sons must get it back for their mother.
"We're taking the iconic image of a mother, the most comforting and nurturing person in the world, and perverting that into something that is punishing and sadistic," Genre's Richard Saperstein said.
The film will apparently go towards a more gritty realistic tone. The producers are aiming for a July start and a spring release timed for Mother's Day 2010.
