    Superman Returns

I just finished watching SR now and i have to say I enjoyed it more now than I did the first time I watched it. It was yet another great Bryan Singer film that looks great and finally adds complexity to the Man of Steel. I always felt Superman was more complicated than people thought, he is the only of his kind and can't get close to people. I'd say that's a pretty lonely hero. Lex Luther was pretty cool and funny in this, Kevin Spacey does a great job making Lex a like-able villian. One of the only things I'll say was a problem for me was the length of the film, it's a little too long (but not anywhere near as long as the lord of the rings, ugh) Superman does get his ass kicked for those who want to see him get beaten up. What I really liked was the fact that they made this as a direct sequel to Superman II and ignores III and IV.

I would give Superman Returns an 8/10

It was ok, I was a little let down by spacey's character, if felt they could have done alot more with it. i'd give a 6/10

for a christopher reeve version its not bad. But I want to see a true superman movie. I've never felt like they were like the superman from the comics. Hopefully 1day that will happen.

ugh this movie blew ass. The best part was spacey, he rocks as always. The Jesus thing was annoying, the kid was annoying, lois was annoying. I was praying for doomsday to show up in the last 5 mins and kill everyone so this mess can be erased.

    5/10

Movie was a borefest, the plane and bullet to the eye scenes were the only things I liked about it.
Would have been much better if they would have used a different villain for a change,I'm just tired of Lex Luther.Yeah, bring on Doomsday in the next Superman flick!

I can totally see why y'all thought it was boring but for me being a big Superman fan I enjoyed it. Can anyone honestly say that Superman IV was better than SR? After that trainwreck it was good to see the Man of Steel on the big screen again. I think, had they continued with Singer's vision, that this movie was a stepping stone like X-Men 1 and that the next movie would've been action packed like X-2. I do agree that hey should use a new villain, namely Doomsday or maybe Brainiac in the next movie.

    This movie is ok for what it is and the shining point out of it is Brandon Routh. But, anyone could have directed this movie. All it is is a love letter to Richard Donner. Let's compare Superman and Superman Returns;

    ---------------Superman------------Superman Returns
    Flying opening
    credits at the
    beginning as we
    fly through
    space?-----------check--------------------check

    Lex plans to get
    richer off of land
    and killing innocents
    in the process?---check--------------------check

    Lex Luthor's
    woman foiling
    his plot?---------check--------------------check

    Superman
    almost drowns?--check--------------------check

    Superman
    flies around
    Earth at the
    end?------------check---------------------check
    etc.

I mean, there are even certain lines and dialogue outlines that Singer took from the first film. What's funny is fans praise what Singer did with Superman, but he didn't do a single thing different from Richard Donner. I take that back, the only thing he did different was something a majority of fans hate, the son of Superman. So why act like Singer was some great visionary when all he did was copy a pre-destined formula?

Of course it resembled Donner's style because duh! Superman Returns was direct sequel to II so it needed a familiar feeling close to the originals. It was meant to reestablish Sup's place and make way for The Man Of Steel sequel which has yet to be made. I'm willing to bet that the next one would have been the balls to the wall action sequel people wanted. Singer did a great job, I don't see another director like Brett Ratner or whoever making Superman Returns any better

the best thing singer ever did was xmen...end of story

and that wasnt mindblowing...just awesome. Superman Returns is a lame superhero movie...I'd rank it above Fantastic 4 but just below Ang Lee's Hulk

Oh it can be familiar. But deliberately copying something? That's just lazy. Did we really need 30 years of one series? The Halloween series didn't last that long. Let's try the same thing here with you post.

Now what did I just do? I copied you post, changed three things, and added one big detail nobody's gonna like. That's pretty much Superman Returns. Slight changes here and there and one addition that can go nowhere. There's paying tribute and then there's flat out copying. I would have been fine with a small handful of references, but Singer went to far.

The point of a reboot is to separate yourself from whatever happened previously. Yes, Superman Returns is a sequel to Superman 2, but the series just hasn't aged well. How are you supposed to refresh the character if you can't let go of the past and focus on the future? SR could have been a great launching point for the character, but I feel that because it's a proverbial asshole licking of Donner's movie, it didn't fare well. Or at least that's part of it.

Eh the movie blowed, BIG TIME. It's one of the few movies that put me to sleep. SR drags way too much, and I'm SICK of Lex Luthor. I'd rather see more of his other villians.

Well, let's have him punch something for starters. As Kevin Smith said, he's the most powerful thing in the universe. Punch something already! I would watch him punch walls for two and a half hours. Maybe a floor every now and then just to change things up a bit. Hopefully in this next project, whether it be titled "The Man of Steel" or "Superman Unleashed" (), he'll be able to fight somebody. I don't care who it is at this point. It's been twenty-two years since we've seen Superman fight somebody on the big screen. It's long over due.

Superman is in a rut right now. He's seen as the ultimate loser character to a lot of hateful fans. I myself showed distaste, but by actually giving him a chance, I am now a fan. I just wish that whatever the next movie is about, it tells a great story that makes former anti-Supermen love the character the way he was in the 70's and 80's.

I felt the same way about the Wolverine movie, Notice he didn't kill anyone with his claws and only slashed through walls and other inanimate objects. Boring!

Haven't Seen SR i'll prob get to it the same day I finish reading this Superman Graphic novel Tallman gave me which is thicker than the Bible.

Same thing happened in X-Men. Are they going to seriously try to make us believe that Sabretooth died by falling into some water? The only non-watered down version of Wolverine we've ever gotten was in X2. The only instance where he truly went berserker.
