Well I have seen both of these films and I have to say that Laid to Rest kicked Autopsy in the ass.
Laid to Rest was a fun, mindless film, with some awesome deaths. I especially like how the killer decapitated people with a knife, damn that hurted. Also, I think there is one death that has never been seen before in a horror film, which would be the wicked cool face ripping scene.
There are characters that we don't know anything about, but they get killed off quickly, so I guess that is a good thing. So, because it somewhat cured my appetite for gore, I gave this a 7/10.
Now, on a worse note, we have the lame, dumb, and very slow Autopsy. I despise this film, for it's weirdness, lack of making the characters even worth caring for, and for it's dumbness. There was a time when a character could have easily gotten away, but instead they just stood there like a dummy. I got really pissed.
The gore effects where decent, nothing special. I think what made them so special is the way that they are used, like we get one scene where we have like a human tree of gore, if you seen the movie you know what I am talking about, but even then they looked cheap and rubbery like. The pacing was very upsetting to me as well, as they dragged on for 30 minutes or so to go nowhere.
I think what made me hate Autopsy so much was the fact that it dealt with my favorite type of movie in the horror sub-genre: strangers who are trapped in a secluded house, hospital, morgue, or theatre and are stalked by a killer. Those are the best kind of horror films, IMO, but lately, no one has been able to execute them right. So I gave this film a 4/10, because it was truly clueless and it sucked.
Oh yeah, John Doolan, "sexy bitches are my favorite kind of bitches". Hilarious!
