I am one of those cliched people who gets mad about remakes and mistrusts anything new and I still have to say Fright Night is really good. Not as a horror movie, but as an action movie with vampires. The only thing it could have used was some nudity.

This was really odd to me. The movie got an R rating so you think they would throw a boobie or two or three in this thing.

honestly take away the language and this movie was very PG-13. Dunno why they'd go with an R rating if they were gonna do so little to make it R.

Come on the movie was from Dreamworks which is partly Disney. So if they drop a couple of f' bombs, to them, that would be considered an "R" rating. But, I agree.

I know it's odd to do something in depth on a movie that is "older" and in a thread that hasn't been touched in ages...but I will.

I watched this for a second time yesterday since it was on Showtime or Starz. For me it has it's good and bad points. Let's get Colin Farrell out of the way first. Obviously if you have seen the original he is no Chris Sarandon. The good thing is he doesn't even try to be. Farrell's Jerry is nothing like Sarandon's and that's a good thing because Sarandon's performance was stellar and really cannot be duplicated. That's not to say Farrell wasn't good, I thought he really was but you can't help but compare and it's not even close.

They completely dropped the ball on Evil Ed. This was hard to watch. Evil Ed was an integral part of Fright Night and they totally fucked it up in this remake. Everything from being miscast to him being the first to discover Jerry is a vampire. Throw in the scene where Jerry turns him...what the hell were they thinking? That scene in the original is near classic status. But in this remake we get a pool scene?

Now the biggest flaw...Peter Vincent. Without ever seeing the original this might not be an issue, however what horror fan has not seen the original Fright Night? What made Fright Night such an instant classic was mostly the chemistry between Jerry, Charley, and Peter. Roddy McDowall was awesome as Peter Vincent, he made Vincent a lovable character and his interactions with Charley were a huge part in what made Fright Night so special.

In fact everything in the original was special. From Vincent seeing Jerry is actually a vampire because he didn't cast a reflection to how Jerry seduces Amy in the club, to the Evil Ed wolf scene, even Jerry's keeper...he didn't even have one in this remake. Oh and don't forget the shitty CGI Amy vamp at the end which in no way, shape or form was even a tenth as good of what we saw of the Amy vamp in the original.

The only thing I truly liked about the remake was the description of the kind of vampire Jerry was. I have done a lot of research for my books and have learned that a vampire simply isn't just a vampire. There are different breeds which have originated from different parts of the world. I really like that it touched on this here because this is the first movie of its kind that I can recall doing so.

So all this means the remake is a mediocre Hollywood driven cash in looking to make a quick buck on the cult (yet successful) status of the original. Oh and Imogen Poots is
