David Cronenberg's Shivers (1975)

Anyone else ever catch this one. I don't think it's made a big round on DVD because I've only ever seen it twice. Once when I rented it on VHS a couple years ago and then the other day on one of my movie channels.

Okay flick along the same lines of The Crazies. A parasite makes people sexually active/crazy and takes place on an island that is home to an expensive apartment high rise (which reminds me of Land of the Dead.)

Kind of a slow movie, but not too bad.

Movies a lot of fun, but I am a biased cronenberg fan.

Movie has a sillier/ tongue in cheek tone that kind of surprised me, since I seen this one after most of his later work.

I liked this one. Something different. Cronenberg did well with this, his first feature film.

I still say he should have stuck with the original title, "Orgy of the Blood Parasites"

I think it's kind of funny how you can tell the stuff he "recycled" for The Crazies.

It did make the rounds on DVD some time ago, but now the DVD is so rare it'll cost an arm, leg and a kidney to get a copy. This is probably to the best of my knowledge the only Cronenberg film I don't have on DVD. Rabid was supposed to have been some sort of "sequel" to this film. Definately a good film from the 70's

Shivers was good but that's it, nothing to memorable from this one.

I love this movie. Cronenberg's 1st horror movie. It was corny..and fun to watch. A few shocks too and some scenes made u squirm. Good stuff. I wish i could find it on DVD.

Caught it about half way through on one of my premium channels a few months ago. I liked it from what I saw.

I watched this 4 years ago. In my roommates collection. I threw it in and was like WTF? This is some twisted sh*t. Kinda out there better then The Brood. Its a must see for anyone who likes Cronenberg's mainstream work. It was the only one of his movies that my GF watched that made her walk out of the room ( and she watched Eastern Promises, Videodrome, The Fly and Naked Lunch).

Was the 2nd film I saw in my Cronenberg film class.
Not his best film, but certainly a lot going on in there.

Shivers is very under-rated. I loved it but I don't think I've ever met anyone who liked it. I had a VHS copy of it in the early 90s and lent it to a girl I went on a blind date with. Turned out she was ugly though, so I never saw her again and she kept my video! I learned my lesson though - never trust an ugly bird.
