Wes Craven talks his involvement in the SCREAM "reboot"

Good news! As suspected, it looks like the word "reboot" was poorly used in the previous article from EW, as the new trilogy will just be additional sequels as opposed to a remake of the first trilogy.

Franchise creator Wes Craven spoke to Digital Spy recently on the topic of the new films; here's a snippit from the interview:

"Bob Weinstein (The Weinstein Company co-chairman) has talked to me, he's interested in me directing it. I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I've said to Bob is I'm not closed to it, I'm not open to it, I'll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That's where it's at and I'm not expecting a script until August. I don't know what the premise is or anything."

Craven also confirms that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette are pretty much set to reprise their roles, but believes they will be the only returning cast members, while the rest will be new actors/characters.

This will be so terrible. A shitty movie franchise coupled with the Weinsteins is a big red flag for me.

I'm not really against this. I liked the Scream movies pretty well, and I think Wes Craven is great. If he's involved with this then things could work out. If they go the straight-to-dvd route that'll probably ruin the franchise.
As for David Arquette and Courtney Cox being the only ones returning, well that's fine with me. I really don't care for Neve Campbell, she's not much of an actress.
And pretty much all the others from the previous films are dead.
So ya, I'm interested to see what happens with this series in the next few months.

How about they reboot the Scream series so that the entire premise isn't unbelievable and the acting doesn't suck...

The previous news was blatantly misleading and misinterpreted.
I really wouldn't mind seeing a new trilogy.

i really think that this movie will do just FINE if they write the script right. No stupid jokes, no SEX like "Cabin Fever" and please NNOO dumb killings. They should NOT follow the same old things. Some guy close to them is a killer and wants revange and he starts killing people for fun. That would be really STUPID. They should try something new. Proper promotion a very good trailer and good ACTING will make this movie look GOOD. Weather the movies suck or not they never FLOPED that means SCREAM has fans and they will see this, once AGAIN if its well done. And not the same old story.

I hated the first 3 movies, there is NO POINT to this except to cash in on an old franchise. No one I know around here that those movies were any good, I'm sure it will tank in the theaters.

I'm pretty surprised at all the negative posts on this. I guess maybe I'm getting old. I remember in the '90s the Scream franchise was huge!
A new sequel coming out was highly anticipated, and it was fun trying to figure out who the killer was!
The Reaper made my point. "Why not?" Does it really make you that mad that they would come back and talk about picking up the Scream franchise? Even with Wes being a creative mind behind the process?
With all the crappy 'Remakes' being made, and 'Land of the Lost' (WTF Will Ferrell), why not a Scream sequel.
