probably not because i fixed the major design flaw of this particular model, been running strong for weeks now, i play it about 5 days a week and nuthin so far

when you send you system into M$ they dont "solve" the problem, they put a "bandaid on it"

so since both the PS3 and the 360 are dropping their prices to $299 what does this mean? will the 360 hold its lead over the PS3?

The newly designed "Slim" is very appealing and assuming it uses the same blu-ray player in the current PS3s, it will be one of the best bluray players on the market for only $300...this will mean a lot of them will be picked up; however this does not mean that they will be used as video game systems, there are a large group of people that use the PS3 as a bluray/media machine (which it is fantastic at). Since Video game companies make their money off of licensing games and not selling systems (with the exception of nintendo who does both) will the PS3 sell more games than the 360 in 2010?

I don't see how that's a fair assumption, that one console is going to "lead" over the other console, that is. For people like me, who purchased an Xbox 360 a few years back, I'll be getting a PS3 when the price drop hits. I'll have both systems, but just purchased one at an earlier date. If more people purchase PS3's, could that mean that people already had an Xbox 360? Same thing with the other way around. PS3 and Xbox 360 fanboys are going to be competing and trash talking for nothing.

what are you talking about?

If one system (A) sold 100 units and another system (B) sold 99 units, then system A will be leading in sales.

Also if one system (A) sold 1000 games and the other system (B) sold 500 games, then it would be clear which is the leader of the pack.

PS3 sales are gonna jump and it may not overtake 360 by 2010, but before this generation is over the PS3 will be on top imo. I know of a few people on this board who aren't biased and owned both consoles, they ended up selling the 360 and keeping the PS3, and advised me to avoid the Xbox.. I think others may do the same after they've had there PS3 slims for awhile.

In all honesty, the Halo franchise will keep Microsoft going strong for many MANY years to come. I mean, look at what its done at this point. 3 games and around 25 million copies sold between them (not including Halo Wars).

interesting quote from John Carmack at QuakeCon this year about 360 and PS3

Carmack talked about developing for consoles for the first time with Rage. He feels the PS3 has more processing power, but the 360 is easier to program for. "I know Sony fans might get mad, but all the consoles are so much better than they once were, and are closer together now," he explained diplomatically. As a sop, he said the 360's space constraints caused a lot of extra work having to go back and streamline textures for the platform.

Pretty much supports what many have said in the past.

This reminds me of one of the past console wars: PS1 Vs Sega Saturn.

The Sega Saturn was the more powerful system but was much more difficult to program for and was priced higher...similar to the PS3.

The PSX (PS1) was less powerful but easier to program for and had more games...similar to the 360

obviously, but it does bring up a good point. Sure that Cell Processor looks great on tech sheets and to wow people looking for superficial bragging points. But when it comes down to it. It's a tricky bastard to work with. That's why other then with PS3 exclusives like KZ2 we aren't really seeing too many games that could be said to look better than any 360 game.

No third party publisher, like say activision, is gonna sink extra time and money to making the ps3 version of say, COD modern warfare 2 look better then 360, even if it's possible to do so.

If any games are gonna truly show the power of the PS3 it's gonna have to be first party exlusives.

well it's certainly doing better than the saturn was but it's still lagging behind the 360 in terms of sales and game sales.

You don't have to be working on a game on the PS3 to tell the thing is a complicated piece of hardware.

It's not even the extra work necessarily, but at the end of the day the bottom line is the almighty dollar. If you're a company that makes a game on both 360 and ps3 It's not worth the money to spend the time and resources trying to get the most out of the PS3 when your return won't warrant any extra profit. Games cost a shit ton to make now. Hell supposedly Killzone 2's budget, Sony's shining gem of graphical and tech prowess, went past 30 million dollars.

It's an expensive investment to try to "unlock" the extra power that the PS3 certainly does have. When sony came out with the PS3 they pushed the idea that they could deliver games that really pushed graphical capabilities. KZ2 is proof that there's a lot of horsepower under the PS3, but even that game has a lot of smoke and mirrors behind it, like all console games do.

You wanna know what the most powerful gaming system is? take a look at what you're using to type on this forum. Games on computers will look much better assuming you have the horsepower in your pc to run it.

Lets take a 3rd party company like say EA
If it takes EA 500 hours to develop a game from scratch on the 360 and 700 hours to develop a game from scratch on the PS3 they will obviously develop all their games on the 360 and port the game over to the PS3.

This means that even though the PS3 has more processing power it will be playing the same (or worse in many cases) game thats on the 360.

Sure the developers can go back to the PS3 port and try to optimize it and remove all the bugs and glitches they can, but that costs more money so most multiplatform games are better on the system it was developed for...which in most cases is the 360
