I mean I try to overlook them, but when there are that many I just can't. But like I said still doesn't stop me from liking it.

Good thing you don't review movies

Speaking of his eyes, I believe that's another plot-hole of sorts, since it was never revealed what was up with his eyes.

I recently watched this and I wasn't too impressed. It had the makings of a good flick, but I thought it went downhill at the hour mark. I didn't like that he went back for the little girl and the whole thing with the cop and the dog was kind of silly. I also didn't like the ending.

Loved the movie! As far as the traps go -
    Spoiler...
it's obvious the Collector was still in the process of setting them up when Arkin arrives. Arkin knows the house - he went straight for the target and that direct approach still was not trapped at the time. As time passes more of the traps are set and/or completed. He designed it to fuck with anyone who managed to get into the house after and to prevent escapes from the current captives. The thing with the eyes - who cares (if there's a sequel perhaps they'll go more into his character - this film just shows that he's a brutal SOB with a sick mentality!) The dog was obviously his trained pet, probably to stop interlopers.

I thought it was quite awesome!

I think you're just trying to justify the plot hole now, even if he was working on the traps while the dude entered the place, the way it's all elaborately setup would take quite some time, and it didn't seem like much time passed at all from the moment he went into the house.

Just my thought process on the situation as I watched it.
    Spoiler...
Like with the chandelier when Arkin first sees it - It was all bladed out but still on the floor. It was a trap the Collector hadn't finished setting up yet and the reason I came on that thought.

A definite loophole would be while it was being set up how the hell they didn't just happen upon each other in the first place, since the guy would have been going around the house to set up the traps. Oh, and also, since lots o people are mentioning the Collector's land record speed to set the traps up, he must have been pretty damned quite too - I mean, were the windows already boarded up - Maybe Arkin wasn't very observant, but he probably should have heard some of it... maybe.
Damn it - Now I'm starting to see some loopholes that I can't explain!
    Spoiler...
He worked on that house for weeks. He knows they don't have an ill tempered, vicious dog. Wouldn't being attacked by that thing be a warning sign that something ain't right?!

Whatever - I still like it...

I still don't get the movie. How is he a Collector? Who did he collect? He took people, put em in a box, then kills them. It's hardly collecting.

Visually and graphic wise it was nice to watch, but damn if the story wasn't as retarded as shit.

lol this was exactly what i thought! so far fetched, some of the traps were just illogical and overall i just didnt enjoy the watch.

Some people seem to dislike this film because there never a real reason given behind The Collector's actions, but for me thats what I loved about the film. Just about every "slasher" type film that comes out involves some sort of back story that explains why the killer has to kill, that is all fine and dandy, but what about telling a story in which the killer kills for no other reason than to indulge in his own sick games? This movie provides us with a killer we do not understand but that we know there is something more to, and I really love that approach. The Collector has animal like reflective eyes, and this is also a big reason why I liked the movie, once again it shows that there is something more to this character than what the movie explores. I am really interested in what a sequel might bring us.

There are clues....... with all the symbolic use of the various creepy crawlies..... that The Collector is possiably an exterminator. One of the films many unanswered questions is why the killer utilizes the methods by which he catches his prey. The man kept inside a large trunk states at one point to Arkin that he is the "bait".
    Spoiler...
One of the characters finds himself in a similar trunk during the closing scene,

probally "bait" for another stalk and kill session for The Collector.

I also like how he centers on his ''collections'' feeling pain. Pain is nice.
