Event Horizon - Underrated

I caught this flick on HBO again last night and had forgotten just how good it is. The cast is pretty good with Sam Neil and Laurence Fishbourne headlining. In the gore department things are solid aswell, i know things were supposedly cut out for the R rating but there is still enough imo. Neil plays his role excellently and the special fx really helped late stage Weir become even more entertaining. This is certainly one of the better 90's flicks and hands down Paul Anderson's best effort.

Not many people mention this film, even in the new (and absurd) 90's thread it gets little to no mention. That makes me wonder if people really didn't like it or just forget about it. To me this is an under-rated horror flick that scored high in the acting, atmosphere, and style departments, and probably deserves a little more word of mouth than it gets.

I don't really think it's underrated since it's fairly known to be a good movie, it just never seems to be mentioned much

I think the fact that it doesn't get mention much makes me think of it as underrated.

It had a "Lovecraft in Space" feel to it. Sam Neil always delivers, Def got this one in my DD collection.

This is always on my cable every couples of months. I dig it. I think Sam Neil is always good in his films.

Been in my dvd collection for years. Defiantely one of my favorite 90's flicks. It gets mentioned now and then around here, but not alot. I marked it up to the folks that really know horror already know the film and don't need to be reminded of its greatness that often.

Though, this would be near the top of a 'recommended films for folks new to horror" thread... if we ever made one that is. Hmm, might be a neat sticky idea for the forums.

I loved the movie, I don't own it because of my whole "No new DVD's until I have a HDTV so I can upgrade to Blu-Ray" thing. But it will be one of my first few Blu-Ray buys. I wish I could have got Dead Space at the big GameStop sale because it has the same vibe to me like Event Horizon. It's a shame Paul Anderson's films don't have that sort of quality anymore.

I don't think it's underrated at all since you can visit just about any horror forum and you'll find at least one thread with people jizzing themselves over this movie.

Personaly, I thought it sucked the first time I saw and have no desire to revist it.

yes one of my all time fav's. Paul Anderson's only movie he did that wasn't a pile of steaming shit. Great movie tho, wouldnt mind seeing more space/sci-fi horror like this in the future as long as they dont do it in the tradition of Jason X or Leprechaun 4, cuz those just plain sucked ass.

I agree with Both Steelba and Cataclysm. I do think it is underrated because personally I think it's one of the top 20 QUALITY horror films of all time, IMO. If I had friends over and they said 'let's watch a good horrow movie, I'd absolutelypick that over Psycho or the original TCM, because it stil holds up and can appeal to almost any crowd. (Science fiction nerds, Gorehounds, Psycholigical Thriller buffs, Supernatural Thriller fans, and even satanic film fans to some degree.) On the other hand, it falls under so many categories, that it's hard to bring up in a Slaher Forum or a Gore Forum, because it has so much more to offer. It's multi-genre fare. Either way, I dig it though. One of my Fav's.
