Actually read of few of the books when I was bored in school a few years back, they don't center on Vampires, just the first book. I'll take this over Twilight any day though, doesn't look too bad. I just hope it hits theaters in around the Fall, I think I'd enjoy this most around then.

I've read the books before (well I've at least read the books that this film adapts) and I'm curious about the film. The director/writer took more than a few liberties with the source material, but I think that might in the end make it a better movie. I like that its more of a light-hearted effort.

I have personally read through this series I'm currently on the 10th book, I started reading Cirque Du Freak when I was 14, I am now 21 and still reading them, they are great books, the stories are truly engaging and its not really all about vampires, in the end it involves the entire world humans, vampires and what you'll learn is called "vampaneze". The first couple books are kind of more for kids but the get more and more adult as the series goes on in my opinion, but it always has a young adult feel because Darren Shan who is the main characters name in the book and the author lol, is aging at half the rate a normal human would because he is half vampire, not a full vampire.
I really hope the film does the book justice, the trailor is pretty vague, so I hope to be impressed.

I think the "vampire momentum" is getting a little irritating as well, but Cirque Du Freak has been around since I was a kid, so I don't think it should be catagorized with the "momentum" or "media popularity" or whatever you would call it. I really loved these books growing up, I think a lot of the novels that go to film end up making the joy of the read kind of stale, like your burnt out on it, but Cirque Du Freak has a lot of really cool shit in it worth watching the movies for, so I'll be the first to see it, hopefully I'm not as equally disappointed as I was with Twilight.
