Okay, I'm gonna try to bring some thoughts into this discussion now. Even though it mostly consists of mindless rambling.
Werewolf movies are, if you ask me, the best monster movies out there. The good ones that is, lol. We have some brilliant ones with excellent non-CGI special effects like The Howling and AWIL (these really are the best examples). Then we have some that might not be as excellent non-CGI special effects like Silver Bullet. I personally like that werewolf alot and I wouldn't be surprised if that's how werewolves would look if they existed, but I can agree that it's not the best looking one out there. But Silver Bullet is a perfect example of a werewolf movie that stands strong without the AWIL quality on effects. It builds a scary story, tension, has effective scenes, you name it.
This brings me to the point about CGI and how shitty those films usually are; why can't they still be good movies? Keep in mind that these are actually movies with a decent budget behind them. I hate Underworld, Van Helsing, Cursed and whatever else is out there, but my main reason for disliking them isn't the effects, even though they bother me alot. It's that they are actually bad movies. They are all suited for 13 year olds, which bugs me alot when we are talking about monsters that tear people to shreds. But hey, even then there can be fun movies containing werewolves (The Monster Squad). I know that these barely are werewolf movies, but stay with me.
What is actually the issue? There are good werewolf movies that hasn't had a huge budget to support them (Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps, etc). They are interesting as hell and the werewolves don't look too shabby at all. I'm not resolving any issues at all here, btw, so don't read further if you think that.
Is the problem the PG-13 mixed with the CGI?
Is it the fact that Underworld and Van Helsing are more like action movies, and Cursed a failed teenage comedy?
Is it what someone said earlier, that werewolves aren't pleasant to look at so teens don't wanna see them?
Did CGI make the movie industry lazy?
I dunno. But a werewolf movie done right is way better than any vampire or monster film. Here's to hoping that
House of the Wolf Man will kick everyones asses, without gore, big budget and CGI
