    Think Back

I suppose most of us picked up the horror genre as a kid or teen. So my question is what horror film made you fall in love with the horror genre and why?

The first horror film I really fell in love with was Phantasm. There was certain scenes in the film that I thought were kick ass and the 3 main characters seemed real and entertaining.

    And your film is?

When I was in Elementary school the Library had a series of these orange books one was about Dracula another was about the Wolfman,Godzilla,King Kong and so on.
And then they had a Power record about Dracula,Frankenstein, brown and gray Werewolf and I would stay after school and listen to it quit often, these are really what pulled me into horror.

As far as movies go the earliest movies I remember watching were Phantasm,The Dark Secret Of Harvest Home ,Fade to Black,Dont be afraid of the Dark and Dont go to Sleep and these helped me love the genre even more.

Watching the old Universal Studios Monsters did at first I guess:

    Frankenstein
    Dracula
    The Werewolf
    CFTBL
    The Mummy

...and then after seeing NOTLD '68 and Dawn, I was hooked.

I can't remember a specific movie that pulled me in. I recall liking horror for as far back as I can even remember. I've always been attracted to it. I liked scary movies and the feeling of being scared when I watched them....maybe it was from watching horror movies with my mom when I was little.

I don't know what the first one was, but I got to watch whatever horror movies I wanted with my dad, so I saw everything at a young age. Probably started checking flicks at 4 and had most of the video stores horror sections done with by 11.

It was werewolf movies like Silver Bullet and AAWIL that really got me going, as well as the old Universal stuff.

I'm going to say the Nightmare on Elm St. It was so terrifying to me as a kid and as I grown up I learned to love it.

Nightmare on Elm St. , Child's Play and Friday the 13th.. I was like 3 when I watched Friday the 13th with my older cousin.. my only words at the end were.. "Wanna see it again!" and I made him play it for me again on the VCR. It was already three years old by that time but I loved it just the same. And Nightmare was released the year I was born, but I watched it with my cousin the same day we watched Friday the 13th.. I guess he was expecting to scare me or something and he told me when I was older that it freaked him out that I enjoyed those.

holy shit i remember those, I used to always take those out of our school library.

My grandmother is responsible she used to watch all kinds of horror with us when she would babysit myself my brothers and cousins. I'd say the earliest I remember is Jaws or maybe Creepshow, but we watched all the fridays, nightmares, and chuckys since as long as I can remember
