Ok, so... SciFi channel is ditching Scifi content for reality show crap and Disney is dipping into softcore horror content? Announcements like these give me headaches...

Side note: Coraline was a decent flick, I enjoyed it, but it was not horror in any sense of the term. Strange (in a good way), but not horror.

Some folks are scaried easier. I know folks that won't go to the circus cause clowns terrify them. Better yet, I know someone that won't watch any flick with spiders, even Charlette's Web (kid's flick with the pig), cause she's deadly afraid of spiders. (laugh, I do)

Strange, odd, a little creepy... these are words to explain Coraline, not horror. :movies:

I watched some of Coraline, it was definitely creepy. I liked Monster house as well. I have no problem with disney making scary movies aimed at kids.

I think it fits. Coraline is a horror. It's certainly fits the below definition moer than some horror movies i've seen. And these movies are great for younger audiences. Agreed that everyone is frightened by different forms of horror and what scares one won't scare another.
hor⋅ror  Show Spelled Pronunciation [hawr-er, hor-]
    –noun
    1. an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear: to shrink back from a mutilated corpse in horror.
    2. anything that causes such a feeling: killing, looting, and other horrors of war.
    3. such a feeling as a quality or condition: to have known the horror of slow starvation.
    4. a strong aversion; abhorrence: to have a horror of emotional outbursts.
    5. Informal. something considered bad or tasteless: That wallpaper is a horror. The party was a horror.
    6. horrors, Informal. a. delirium tremens.
    b. extreme depression.
    –adjective
    7. inspiring or creating horror, loathing, aversion, etc.: The hostages told horror stories of their year in captivity.
    8. centered upon or depicting terrifying or macabre events: a horror movie.
    –interjection
    9. horrors, (used as a mild expression of dismay, surprise, disappointment, etc.)
    Synonyms:
    1. dread, dismay, consternation. See terror. 4. loathing, antipathy, detestation, hatred, abomination.
    Antonyms:
    1. serenity. 4. attraction.

Neat, a wide range of difinitions that, if followed to the letter, can classify most "romantic comedy" movies as horror films in my eyes.

Online dictionaries are fun sites. They remind me of watching a monkey with a gun, sometimes it ends in humor but usually ends in tears.

I'm not crying Slimey - I just have a wider range of what i can consider horror.
It's not all about bloodshed and gore or darkness. It is also in the settings and the general mood that a movie sets forth to bring. Hell Little Shop of Horrors is a horror comedy and yet there was nothing frightening about that movie in my opinion - and i ain;t talking bout the musical but the cool black and white flick.
There are plenty of films that could help younger audiences find the joy in horror and i believe Coraline and many other younger oriented movies are great way to introduce them. So this Disney thing could be a cool thing for the kids.
Frankly i only posted the definition because i myself found it interesting.

There's been plenty of good children's horror. Some of it by Disney.
I see nothing bad in this.

My kids love those three movies! But does anyone remember the Cartoon Networks Halloween movie "The Scary Godmother". My kids love it, without that movie I would never have gotten any house work done for about three months and my son just pulled it out last night and started watching it cause we started decorating and he knows that it is time to be scary.
