    What is considered horror here?

Just wondering if this is strictly slashem and dashem, or if movies like "The Shining" are considered horror. I think of horror as what scares me and it usually has to involve something that messes with my head, like in the scene in "Ju-on" and "The Grudge" when the mother is crawling down the stairs and her muscles and bones are popping, and the look in her eyes--that to me was scary. I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts on this. Thanks

It's hard to define films as specifically "horror" now-a-days since many current films like to blend various genres together. I'd say leave it up to the viewer to decide.

    at the comment before.

I agree with Fright, its about what the viewer thinks is horrific. For me if the film has quite a few horror elements i would consider it a horror movie. For example a film that people are on the border with, Pitch Black.

Safe to say, NOT paying any mind to what this member (Aurone) has to say now and in the future will be most beneficial.

    What I consider horror:

    Zombies
    Werewolves
    Vampires
    Ghouls
    Goblins
    Witches
    Mummies
    Slashers
    Ghosts
    Lunatics
and all other killers and evil doers

Anything that's not funny, but truly terrifying. I find it funny how all these people think they are into horror but just because a movie is violent with a lot of blood, it doesn't make it horror. A lot of people love movies with a lot of nudity and violence, but it's not scary. Those people then call it "underground horror". It's a mess. There are a lot of good underground horror films, but the majority are for idiots.

Thanks for the responses. I was just wondering y'alls opinions. Because I love vampires and demons, "The Prophecy" is one of my favorite movies,Yet I don't find them scary but "The Others" scared me.

If you like vampires, check out Let the Right One In..incredible story and atmosphere.:cheerlead
And, for vintage vampire terror, check out Tobe Hooper's made-for-t.v version of Stephen King's Salem's Lot back in the late 70's- (ignore the newer one w/Rob Lowe)...Tobe Hooper's old version is a bit slow and long if you watch the whole thing, but has atmosphere that you just can't duplicate today. Remember the little vampire kid that floats through the foggy woods up to the other kids window? Still effective shit even today- great, unnerving music in that scene, oh yeah.
If you like demons, have you seen Lamberto Bava's Demons? A FUCKING MUST-WATCH for anyone who even slightly loves horror!!
