Best Horror film opening scene?

I was thinking about this the other day,and my favorite opening scene from a horror film would go to Phenomena.



It's just a beautifly shot scene and sucked me right into th film.

There are so many...I really liked the beginning of Romero's Day of the Dead. Gave you an idea of just how out of control the zombie plague had become.

Ah my two favorites are:

Day of The Dead, I loved how completely empty the world seemed in the beginning.

House of 1000 Corpses, Probably going to get shit for this one, but I loved the whole scene where the two hillbilly guys try robbing Captain Spaulding.

I always thought the original Stepfather had a great intro. Brutal and grim, but it's a great set up for the movie....and since it deals with ordinary people in ordinary situations, it creates a much more realistic atmosphere that I feel heightens the tension and fear factor of what's to come.
I wouldn't say it's the "best", but it stands out to me. I also have to agree with Phenomena too. That's another great stand out. Fast paced, violent, and in your face. You know you're in for a wild ride when you get all that in the first five minutes!

without a doubt that is the best opening scene of his Dead films. Dawn was a much better film but had one of the most bland openers around, but the film builds quickly and ends up being awesome, so I can forgive that

Dawon of the dead was pretty great, Resident evil was awesome when the ladies head is stuck in the Elevator, and Last but not least 28 weeks later.

Dead & Buried
In the opening scenes a photographer is mesmerized by a beautiful girl on the beach in a small coastal town. As he starts photographing her he's attacked by the townspeople and burned to death. Chilling opening. (and the rest of the movie is great too)
