Thumbs up Zombieland and Shaun of the dead Compared

Ok so now that Zombieland has came out and is taking over how do the two compare to you?
Dont let the feeling of Zombieland newness decide either!
Both offer us the Unlikely Nerd Hero
Zombieland- Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg)cmpletely romantically challenged, klutzy, yet industrious young college student who is still alive in part thanks to his obsessive list of rules for surviving the zombie apocalypse.

Shaun of the Dead- Shaun (Simon Pegg) is a shlubby young slacker. Although initially oblivious to the zombies rising all around him, he eventually discovers his inner zombie killer.

    Both have the Distracted Sidekick
Zombieland: Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) cowboy hat-wearing tough-guy who picks up Columbus. And although he's a genuine badass, he's also dangerously obsessed with finding a Twinkie.

Shaun of the Dead: Shaun's best friend Ed (Nick Frost) is a portly, easygoing guy who is dangerously obsessed with checking his cellphone, and heading to the local pub even as the zombies close in on them.

Both share A horrible chocie of Destination
Zombieland: Against the better judgment, Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are headed to Pacific Playland, their favorite amusement park -- where (sure enough) we are treated to an elaborately gruesome confrontation between our heroes and an army of zombies.
Shaun of the Dead: Against the better advice of his girlfriend, Shaun and Ed lead our heroes to their supposedly safe favorite bar, The Winchester -- where (sure enough) we are treated to an elaborately gruesome confrontation between our heroes and an army of zombies.

We see So called Zombie Impersonations
Zombieland: The gang hides out in a mansion owned by movie star Bill Murray (Bill Murray), who has donned zombie makeup in order to blend in when he goes out. Makes some Funny cracks at himself.
Shaun of the Dead: The gang makes its way into the zombie-surrounded Winchester by pretending to stagger around like zombies.

    A hero in the marks
Zombieland: While Columbus tries to save the girls when they are surrounded by zombies, Tallahassee distracts the undead by locking himself into a game booth and opening fire.
Shaun of the Dead: After Ed gets bitten, he lets Shaun and Liz escape the rest of the zombies by staying behind and wreaking havoc.

So both phenomenal movies. Shaun of the Dead being more Spoof like and Zombieland taking the serious approach of comedy.
Shaun of the Dead pokes fun at being bit and makes light of it, not alot of horrible gore
Zombieland fear of being bit, Gore is there.

So with all these reviews out, do the two really compare, well sure..does it really matter Well no..Both great movies with completely different stories and plots. Different actors and there own greatiness.

Shaun of the Dead is somewhat of an homage to George A. Romeros early films. Zombieland stands on its own.

    Agreed =]

I haven't had the chance to watch Zombieland all the way through, but I found it rather entertaining and funny from what I've seen of it so far.

And I love Shaun of the Dead.
Cracks me up everytime I watch it, Ed is freaking great =]

They are both indeed zombie comedys, but I think they are pretty different films. Zombieland is brainless and fun. Shaun of the Dead takes itself very seriously at points and can also be a thinker. That said both excellent films.

Shaun was funny, well written, well acted, the fx were great, and it was emotinal.
It's one of the better zombie movies IMO.

Im so glad to see other people agree with me. I got so sick of people saying " Oh which is better?" Which one you like more" Well is it ok if I like them both? Why do I have to choose between these two movies? Why in the world does it even matter? some people think there should only be one Zombie-comedy.. I like them keep them coming. :drooling2:

I'd say "Shaun of the Dead" is slightly better. It is more clever in its jokes. "Zombieland" has more slapstick gags. Still, they're both really good, and to those who haven't seen one or the other, I highly suggest them.

I could say I laughed more in SOTD and jumped more in ZL. I just loved them both. Such great Zombie flicks to add to the unforgettable selection.

Agreed! One of my friends constantly rambled on about this and man it annoyed the hell outta me! They're both awesome, they're both comedies that I highly enjoyed...except that shaun has an action figure out. i'm hoping zombieland gets some plastic love, too!

Shaun of the Dead is the superior film because... it is. That is not a negative thing for Zombieland. It definately stands out as a Zomedy. Just hard to beat something like Shaun. Though I admit, I favor English humor over American humor... comes from years of watching Black Adder and the like.

Hmm, short answer would be Zombieland made me laugh more but Shaun made me laugh harder.
