Korean gangster flick A Dirty Carnival gettin' remade

According to Variety, US based Sparkler Entertainment (National Treasure: Book of Secrets) and original production company CJ Entertainment are developing a English-language remake for the South Korean gangster flick A Dirty Carnival. The film will be scripted by Chris Hauty (Never Back Down).

For those who haven't seen the film, it's a very good and underrated Korean gangster flick that depicts as small town hoodlum, who rises in the ranks of a local crime organization to eventually become boss. There's a sub-plot within the film that involve a friend in the movie business who enlists the gangster's help to advise actors in a movie being made about gangsters.

I recommended this flick a couple years ago on the board, but I can't seem to find my original post. Anyway, seeing how The Departed ended up being better than the original Hong Kong film that it was based on, I'll keep this remake with an open mind. Check the trailer below, and if you haven't seen the original yet, I'd suggest giving it a check now!
