Smiley: The Chainsaw Man

This film might be a lost slasher. I remember back in 2001 I saw this on vhs at a video store that's close to my grandma's house. I did not rent it because it wasn't subscribed to that store and I regret it. I'm starting to think I'm crazy and that I have made this all up in my head because after all these years I have never seen this film anywhere. I'm really curious to know what the hell happened with it. I recall that the movie used to have a website which no longer exists. Also, it's like all the info related to it has disappeared too. All I have for this movie is that picture which was the vhs artwork. I suppose that pic is atleast a proof that I'm not totally insane.
Does anyone else know about this movie?

Well it's not uncommon for a movie to make its way to VHS, and then disappear entirely, especially low-budget indy movies. Or you might be mistaken that it was on VHS and is a movie that was never finished, or it was finished but never released. Could be any number of possibilties, but yes, clearly it was a real movie as to what happened to it...Who knows.

I'd say your best bet to find out what happened is to try and get names of those involved and try to track them down.

From searching around, I'm willing to bet that this a movie that never got released. Kind of like Vampire Chicks With Chainsaws, after that movie was finished, everything about it pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth. A few screeners managed to find their way to the surface though. (The movie is a total piece of shit so there was good reason for its disappearence.)

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. This is the only bit of info I found and that leads me to believe it was never released.

Well, do to a few problems we've had, the film's release has been pushed back to the first quarter of 2001.

The story revolves around serial killer Carl Varnak, who was a mass murderer in life, and the media dubbed him "Smiley the chainsawman" because of the mask that he wore after a severe burn in a car crash, and his weapon of choice. The film pics up a few weeks after Carl Varnak's body was found laying on a rock with a satanic symbol on it.

With a name like "Smiley the chainsawman" you can expect a bit of humor, but we feel that it will remain true to the 80's slasher films that we loved.
The body count is well into the 30's.

You can expect another trailer very soon, and http://www.smileythechainsawman.com will be launching in a few weeks. If you have any questions I'd be glad to tell you anything I can,

Seems that Michael Murphey was suppose to release another movie called Contamination: Project Resurrection, but also doesn't appear to exist. So I wouldn't hold me breath on being able to find Smiley.

Should try to see if you can actually find this "Michael Murphey" person.

My name is Ray Boucher, and I was Smiley from "Smiley the Chainsaw Man". I was surprised to find this thread (even though it is over 3 years old). The movie never got made. Anyone who claims to have seen it is wrong. There were websites, but that was at least 10 years ago. If you go to Youtube and search "Smiley the Chainsaw Man", you can find him as a guest star in a "Tino the Cat" video. So much can be said about STCM especially in light of the recent "Smiley" movie release, but unfortunately, STCM never saw the light of day. At least not yet. Thanks to all the folks here at UHM for hosting this board. Like I said, I was shocked to find somebody asking about the movie after so many years.
