Well, as we have all stated before, this year was not the year for horror.
Yet and still, there were some surprisingly good films that came out of this year of dread.
So here's Prince's list of the top 5 Horror films of 2009.
1) Drag me to hell:
Drag me to hell gets this years top honor. Not having using nearly any blood and guts, it managed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats with genuine scares, gross out humor, and fright-fest full or ghouls, ghost, and demons. This was a very fun film to watch and to see that horror maestro Sam Raimi still has what it takes to make an entertaining thought provoking horror film.
2) Martyrs
I choose this film to be second because I liked it's concept and it's boldness in showing us how the concept works. Very dreaded, twisted, and extraordinary take on this film. Looking forward to seeing more on directors Pascal Lugiar's work.
3) My bloody Valentine 3-D
Out of all the damn 3-D horror films that came out this year, MBV ranked highest. Not just for it's body count, but for it's interesting twist, entertainment, humor, and giving us horror fans something worthwhile, in a world of PG-13 bullshit (besides drag me to hell).
4)Paranormal Activity
It comes in forth. Though a gimmick movie, it's really effective in ways that no one could ever imagine. Having only using things like stomps on the floor, lights flashing on and off, and shadow figures crossing doors to make the audience frightened, it was very unique. Having only been made on a budget of $15,000 the movie is a huge box-office success, and is very effective.
5)Zombieland
Last but not least, we have ZL. It really liked the flick and found it to be funny. There wasn't much for gore, which there should have been, but there were a helluva lot of laughs and it was very fun and entertaining. Cool Cameo's by the sexy Amber Heard and funny man Bill Murray. Zombieland is one for all to see.
Well there you have it people, there wasn't much this year, but these are a few of the films I felt qualified for the best of this year.
Here are a few others: Friday the 13th, Orphan, and Laid to rest. These didn't make it due to predictability and your standard cliches. I liked them though.
Worst of 2009
To say that this year was not the year for horror is true and untrue, but with that statement being said, here's a look at some of the worst of 2009.
1) The Unborn
I seriously hate this film, in no way does it try to creep you out, or even manage to deliver any good scares. Then the concept doesn't work, with us having unexplainable cuts from one scene to the next, out of placed dream sequences, that didn't make any sense, and just a whole lot of noise and disaster and a very bad script, that leaves us a series of plot wholes. This ranks number 1 on the list.
2) Halloween 2
It's really time to put Michael to rest. Everytime someone tries to rush and write a film within a year instead of taking there time, it never works out unless the filmis already written. Rob had dream, a terrible dream, that I would not want anyone to waste their fucking time watching. This was a very horrible film: Full of plot holes, unnecessary death sequences, that were diffenitely out of place, and some very weird and unexplainable things to happen. The whole movie was out of place, and the vision Rob desired for us to see, is very wasteful. Skip this shit.
So far, these are the only two films that I have seen that have really pissed me off this year. They shouldn't have even been surfaced on screen. Skip these and enjoy the rest of the year.
