The Original Japanese Ring movie creeped me out, not shit-yer-pants scares, but the image of the girl crawling out of the well and through the TV made me sleep with half an eye on the TV in our bedroom! Not seen the American remake yet, can't be bothered after the awsomeness of that movie!

Yes it is possible to be desensitized to horror films, especially when you watch a lot of them with no other input genre-wise. Just avoid films like Saw and Hostel which make no attempt to scare.

Inside (the french film) might do it, even if it's pretty bloody. Rosemary's Baby if you haven't seen it. And shame on you at this point if you haven't. [Rec] (hell even Quarantine) are worth one watch at least. And again, if you haven't seen it, The Changeling, as you're a ghost fan.

Martyr's might be worth it, but the 2nd half of the film isn't particularly suspenseful. And you'll know when you've hit the second half, the tone shifts dramatically.

Hmm.... I still need to see a few mentioned on here. I'm getting to them.

It is definitely possible to be desensitized to horror films. I've been watching horror films since I was twelve, and now not much scares me. I'll jump occasionally, but I'm so used to the formulas used that I can see most scares coming. Its when I'm alone at night that the horror films come back and haunt me.

The Horror Films that Have Scared Me:

Nightmare on Elm Street (1st viewing, after that, I was in love)
Pet Semetary (damn that scalpel weilding toddler!)

And Chucky used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid. I got over that my watching the series backwards and seeing how lame he could be.

my most recent willies came from paranormal activity.

i don't really get grossed out by blood and gore much...but i did think the idea michael myers eating that dogs intestines in halloween 2.2 was gross. i'm actually a lot more squeamish watching blood and guts in real world dramas...like on medical shows and stuff or seeing something portrayed on the screen that can commonly happen.

scream 2 (over ten years ago) got me to jump out of my seat.

of course perceptions change as you age as well...poltergeist was terrifying as a 15 year old me watched it the first time.

somebody mentioned videodrome early on in this thread...fantastic movie...left me in a strange frame of mind for days after i first watched it.

as bad a movie as it was cloverfield left me feeling kind of shaken at the end. not so much because of the characters dying...but the message it presented. pretty much everything we do is futile, there are too many things out there much bigger than us and no matter what we do we're all going to meet the same fate being buried underground.

As you get older, horror films tend to lose the ability to scare you. My fears and phobias now are more realistic and mundane. I no longer care if things go bump in the night as long as they don't wake me and then keep me up all night making me late for work. And if someone made a horror film about missing a mortgage payment it would be shit.

To bad Identity isn't a horror flick or good :starefreak:
I'm guessing it's Clea Duvall's ugliness that was scary

A movie that actually made me cringe, and I watch horror movies for a living, was an independent film called The Trek. If you ever see it, make sure you buy it, damn good movie.
