So what did we learn thus far tonight?

1. Gregy Boy cant tell a story for shit. (further confirmation)
2. AMC cant keep a secret for shit and has some massive leaks.
3. AMC thinks they can combat real leaks, with obvious fake leaks.

Im going rant a bit more on the subject. Spoilers.

Im going to work on the assumption that the dual death is true..
Even if they were to do this, i still would not have much trust in the writing staff or production. Not just because they've made some of the dumbest decisions and worst production moves anyone could ever make with a tv show. These mistakes were made and made intentionally and we the viewer cannot forget how bad the past couple seasons have been. I dont want to focus too much on this although its a damn good thing to focus on, but its just something we have to keep in mind because it sets a basis and a tone and it works with all the rumors we've been hearing.

Some might be saying "Well if they kill Abraham and Glenn, then you can stop complaining. You're getting what you want and the show returning to creating an unsafe atmosphere for everyone and not just side characters that no one cares about".
Im going to contest this notion.
Early on we heard that it was Abraham that was going to bite the dust. I believe this rumor to be true and IMO the pictures back this up. I think this was the original intention and original script. I dont think they wanted to kill Glenn because they have decided to keep popular characters safe instead of creating a good story and maintain what the show was originally about. Turning it into basic cable slop that i poop on.
What changed?
Roles actors took. Specifically Glenn.
During production of the sixth season the actor who plays Glenn signed on to two new movies and a different tv show. All rumors around this say that these are conflicting schedules and he himself is the producer or director for, i forget.... maybe both. So this is potentially a piece of creative work for him, something that could or would be more meaningful than TWD and something he would take on over TWD.
While a lot of what im working with is rumor, we do know the actor who plays Glenn took these roles on and that they are conflicting in schedule w/TWD.

Coming around full circle you may be asking what this has to do with my faith in TWD writers and why i feel this does not mean they have been set on a proper path for storytelling this world.
Well its actually pretty simple.
If all of this is true, then they would have written it the way we have come to expect. By overemphasizing a side characters death and pretending that its a main character or one of the few left from seasons 1 or 2.
Basically they would have replaced Glenn with Abraham. But by chance Glenn has taken on other roles and basically had to bow out of the show.
This was not a choice of the writers.
The choice was made for them.
This would not be creative writing or them attempting to give the viewers that unsafe feeling again. Which btw, is absolutely critical with Negan.

Agreed. The show is hit or miss week to week. This was one of the better ones.

The episode was good, but wasn't as great as people were making the episode out to be. Perhaps it was the 30 or 40 commercials they showed that spoiled it a bit. I knew who was selected to be Lucilled, so wasn't much of a surprise. I think people are / were expecting more from the episode, so this may not get all the rave reviews AMC is expecting.

I simply don't understand the same people that praise this show bash on FTWD when almost everything about it is inferior at this point.
But FTWD doesn't have Daryl so, I guess that makes it understandable

I'm confident in two things after that premiere.

The first being that was one of the greatest episodes the show has ever done IMO. Moreover, one of the greatest episodes in recent seasons full of forgettable episodes. Totally fitting of the title of 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be'.

The second? The rest of the season will be garbage by comparison and that's all based on what we've seen with their inability to juggle a sizeable character count, heavily reliant on small groups or bottle episodes. As well as knowing that's likely going to happen again with even more characters and communities added. It will be a lousy season from here on in I feel.

I loved how the group was powereless. No random chance, no open road, no uniting, nobody to save their asses. I loved Rick being psychologically broken down. I loved that even with death all around them, they had no way to escape. No saves whatsoever. It was only over when Negan felt it was over. I thought the entire cast worked their asses off in that episode. Rest assured, we will NEVER see an episode where the group is THAT vulnerable again. Likely ever. From here until the final episode of the season. It'll likely be about a destroyed group eventually coming together to get a win over Negan.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle Negan on the show. There are those that want him to be where he is now in the comics. There are those who want him dead like any other villain. How can Rick and Negan ever co exist after all that? You would think if the man is to die. Its going to be Sasha or Maggie that kills him. Perhaps when his guard is down and he least expects it?

The cliffhanger was still the wrong decision to make and that's why this episode isn't a perfect score. This episode doesn't change that at all. If they legit had both deaths planned out as far back as 2 years. Abe should've died in the final seconds of the Season 6 finale, then Glenn in the premiere.

The deaths hit home when they had the big dinner scene at the end. That's when I felt numb and sad about the whole ordeal.

I have this terrible feeling I'll be looking forward to FTWD more after Episode 2 of Season 7. I hope im wrong.

Actually i would not call Negan disturbed, hes a totalitarian. Which is simply a whole different problem that could potentially be worse.
That said, im sure they will fuck up the Negan story line as much as they can in the show.

That's true but its not at the same time.
Firstly its been at least three seasons since TWD has been quality television.

Second, how the episode was done was actually pretty solid and needed moving forward. We needed it to be that brutal and from Rick's perspective

because he completely changes as a character as a result of this, he is an abused puppy after this. People who watch the show but dont read the comics, really need to be convinced as to why this very head strong, do anything person becomes so broken. It is a very necessary episode and events for the sake of the story and it will permanently and dramatically change Rick

Lastly, the reality is, all they needed to do was put it as episode 15 or 16 of season six and it would be discussed as being on par with the red wedding. It could have been a continuous flow of the story that lead to these events and arcs, and most of the criticisms levied at Gregy boy would be vastly different.
Instead Greg Nicotero gets it in his head that hes going to sacrifice the entire point of the scene for an attempt at slightly higher ratings... if that even happened.

One of the biggest problems with TWD and actually most shows, is the disconnect between story tellers and commercial tv. We see these situations where suspense is being built, but then removed for a commercial. When the show comes back, you're supposed to some how get back into that mental state you were, but of course you just saw an energizer bunny commercial, a comedy movie trailer, an anti-drug psa and comic book men advertisement.... suspense does not work like this. This is a failure of basic cable television as a whole. So i wouldnt say that it was not suspenseful, but between the leaks, the comic and most of us knowing what was going to happen with the added bonus of the horrific structure of episodes plus the commercials, it was just the perfect storm to remove any suspense that was actually there.

The quote comes from a website called "The Verge" (i think, it seems to be all over the place with no or few crediting the original author) and its from an author who apparently just figured out how bad TWD is with story. The article is called "the quitters club" or something like that. Its a silly little article, i mean, can we be objective for the past three seasons? Is this episode really the one that did it? Not the constant filler episodes, or the changing of scenes we saw in order to get a character out of an impossible situation? This is it? Really?

I just thought it was a ridiculous episode...I kept holding my head in disbelief. 20 minutes of torture would have been enough....the whole episode? A bit too much and the acting was laughable for the most part.

You know how people do fan edits where they go back and reorganize a movie or scenes or add deleted scenes to make a movie less broken (or in some cases actually good) or make more sense, answer questions or creates more a complete story arc?

I really wish someone would do this with TWD season 6 and 7. It would be a task and viewers would have to be dedicated to watching and it probably could not happen for another few episodes. But someone should definitely go back, cut out the four episodes from season 6 that are entirely unneeded and then recut the death scene and season ending episode.
Take out the flashback bullshit, it would definitely be more impacting and then have it end with a new questionable beginning. I think the episode put int he proper story order and in the proper context would make it far less..... bullshitty.

Hell the reality is TWD needs fan edits for seasons 4.5+..... if we cut out all the unnecessary episodes that do nothing for the story and only exist as filler, then this would probably be season 6.

Good first episode back for the new season to get it started, i've heard or read that that some people are saying that the Season 7 episode should of been the ending for Season 6 instead and then start out the new season but in an way it ended up working out i just hope that the rest of the season doesn't end up falling apart and going downhill from this one episode but time will tell either way.
