Liked last week's episode better, at least it was funny and something different. Didn't think we needed an entire episode dedicated to the breaking of Daryl, we get it already. It was also a little heavy handed in steering us toward Dwight's apparent and forthcoming inevitable betrayal of Negan?

Its a replacement story.
In the comics it was Carl who decided to sneak into a truck and try to kill Negan. Instead he got caught and this was how we were exposed to the Saviors HQ.
In the show it seems clear they are taking that story and reworking it to be around Daryl (with a touch of Dwights story that was not detailed in the show but in the comics). Which im sure they at least partially did did to avoid the censors coming after them for showing a child in these situation of prostitutes and violence.

The Sanctuary wasn't handled with the same care as the Kingdom. That's obvious. Not sure why either. Daryl had barely anything to do. Which is a conflict because on one hand, the episode needed to be about the Sanctuary, which it sort of was and wasn't. On the other hand, Daryl just sits here and has about 3 words to say. I suppose because he was around people he didn't like or know and is being tortured. What sense does it make for him to be talkative?

I enjoyed pretty much all the Dwight stuff. The guy is basically a big pussy, he's the anti Daryl really. The last scene between him and Daryl says it all. He was thinking about someone else. The mistake Daryl makes is thinking while Dwight may have been looking out for Sherry. He was clearly looking out for himself as well. If he had any balls at all, despite Tina's condition. He would've kept going out into the unknown. He feared the unknown. Sherry is who knows. I'll be surprised if they expand on that character at all, or just kill her off before seasons end.

In terms of Negan. I do agree with the opinion out there that they should probably be careful not to go too far with the theatrics. That said, I have to be honest. I enjoy the fuck outta him. After a string of droopy eyed villains in Dawn, Gareth and the lead wolf. I love that Negan is a playful, eccentric type who was basically testing everybody the whole episode. The Governor was a one of a kind villain, who had his own style. I never viewed Shane as a villain, but only a person of deep conflict. I never viewed Jenner as a villain either. Negan is his own brand. Its just after all these years of quiet, droopy eyed villains who moped around life. This guy is none of those people. At all. He enjoys every thing he does. No questions asked. It does brand him one dimensional, but after all these villains I've mentioned. This is a welcomed change of pace until I feel like the writers might only stick to it.

That said. I do agree that they should be careful. I have a feeling we won't see him in a more calm state until

his potential imprisonment.

In terms of the rest of the stuff. This episode again loses points because it only focuses on one community. Next week will be no different. It doesn't get a pass because it has the majority of team family. It will still be missing out on things from other stories most likely. Even with 90 minutes.

Gotcha, I stopped reading shortly after issue 100, so I'm only vaguely aware of the events that follow.

After the embarrassing first episode of season 7, i think 2-4 have been the most enjoyable ive seen in seasons.And im surprised they are doing such a great job with pacing and introduction of these characters. The comics kind of lingered with this story line at times and they seem to be doing a good job streamlining it.

I'll go 7/10. Better than last weeks.

Loses points for once again not being able to focus on multiple communities as it will continue to do so. Doesn't matter that this episode featured the majority of team family. That makes no difference.

I can understand Negan being a dick because...that's him. Still my favorite part of the show right now. His entire character makes the show so much more enjoyable to me right now. We'll see if the writers add or subtract down the line. I do think they missed an opportunity with the pedo Savior on Enid. Should've smacked him across the face with lucille. Though Negan did admit in this episode that he doesn't enjoy killing women, so he does have one redeeming quality so far!

Dwight being such a cunt kinda takes the edge off the idea that he could ever work with these people down the line. But eh, I can see where the writers are going with this. They don't want those in the know with the comic to think that this stuff is going to happen overnight and they want the GA to not see it potentially coming. Its damaging to the story in the short term because we want these characters dead. I see that long game, provided they stick to it.

As far as the rest. When they give secondary characters more to do. Its an auto death in the Gimple era. If you are a big fan of Rosita. I'd treat lightly. Michonne was really good in this episode. Glad the writers didn't forget that she's a terrible shot. However if you wanna dive deep into things. Does this mean Sasha is in jeopardy or does this mean that Sasha is safe?

Spencer was a dick, but hasn't he always been? I expect him to be the point of internal conflict this season. At least through 7A. Rick actually made a lot of sense this episode. We got some insight into where he is. He doesn't want anyone else to die, he's acknowledged his actions have resulted in deaths and he came to admit that Judith likely isn't his. If that's not a defeated man, I don't know what is. We haven't seen Rick like this before. Some will love that because they love Rick, others who hate him will choose to ignore it. They can't win over Negan right now, that's obvious.

Gabriel was also a standout in this episode. Loved how he snuck up on Negan and kept Maggie off Negan's radar.

Looking forward to next week with the Hilltop, feels like ages since we've seen them.

And this guy...I just want to see him rough up that sleazy Gregory before Maggie eventually does...

With every "war" story in TWD, i always find a bit of an issue with the direction they never seem to go. I take that back a bit, the Governor touched on it a bit and the novels focused on Lilly have touched on it a few times, but the show does not and the comic has not.

So we now have a situation where there is this Negan guy right? Our lovely band of dickheads now have no weapons and are back into a corner... or are they? Ive always wondered why we've never seen scouts go out looking for military bases (easy to find on a map, and in GA there are 3, all in a 50 mile or so area from where they were at the Prison. And in DC/Virginia, there are tons.

Even evacuated military bases would have tons of weapons and ammo, but would also have tanks and hummers with 50 cals, etc. But even better, something that if i was in this Negan situation, i'd be searching for, they'd have access to to some real missiles. Even if they could not figure out how to use them properly (which i would doubt given how many military personnel we have seen on the show and how many people seem to be competent in researching things) they could simply figure out how to remove the explosive tips from the rocket, stick a few in a van, and then use a remote to drive a car into their compound. Or even use a plane, im sure one of these people have experience flying small planes (its not that rare.)... there are plenty of things they could to do to really gain a tactical advantage and wipe the survivors off the map... but for some reason we dont see them doing this.

Okay, so it appears left eye is retaining his role from the comics.... which once again we see the very poor quality of writing as this is now a redundant story.

Now, i have altered my theory a bit for this season and i think the mid season end will be a big one.

As we know Gregy boy does not like killing characters, for him and the remaining team its about market research and circumstance over quality of story. That said... lets get into spoilers here....

That said one of the rumors for 7-1 was that it was not going to be Gizmo and Abraham who bit the dust. But rather Daryl and Abraham. While these were just rumors, we've come to find that at this point, the only time major characters die is when the actor has too many jobs on their plate. And of course the rumors are, that Norman has like four new movies he is going to be doing plus his other tv show.

So my revised theory is going to be, D-Dog-Dixon dies saving left eye at the mid-season end.

And then in one swoop they will have come in and killed all these people in half a season and we will hear all the fanboys say "see nay-sayers, they didnt turn into poor writers who all the sudden lost an understanding of what the show was about" and that will be when you tell them to shut the fuck up and stick a donald trump doll up their asshole.

Okay ep, but I had a problem with the editing: they had Carl and Enid walking around in the day then the scene changes to follow the people at the Hilltop, so we obviously assume it's happening around the same time, and then it transitions to the night. But after all that stuff happens at night it goes back to Carl and Enid again, clearly still on the same day, so either the Hilltop stuff was some kind of flashback or Carl and Enid slept out in the woods or something
