They should just make next season the last season if they are leaving, but I am guessing they will probably end up doing one more and end it with 10 seasons. Not sure why I still watch this show, I get pretty much no enjoyment out of it anymore. I don't even pay that much attention to the episodes as I am watching them anymore, I just put it on and play them in the background as I am doing something else.

The show never recovered from fucking over Darabont all those years ago. A lot of the speculation is Andy wanted out because they fired Chandler/Carl.

If i remember correctly they had to put some real pressure on him to sign the last 3 year extension he had.

Oh, they'll definitely do at least one more season after next. They've already locked Norman Reedus in with a 20 mil pay check to take over as series lead. I think that's going to backfire, though. Daryl is of course a fan favorite, but I think people are going to find, once the focus is put more on him, that he makes a much better best friend/sidekick character than leader. If you check out fan forums, a lot of fans turned on him after it was revealed at the end of this season that he's joining Maggie in turning on Rick. "How could he?" they say, or "No, Daryl isn't a traitor!" And, honestly, as much as I dig Reedus, I don't think there's any question that he's not near as good an actor as Lincoln. He can brood and smolder with the best of 'em, but that doesn't require a lot of acting; mostly tilting your head down and looking up beneath your eyebrows. I don't think he has the chops to carry the show like Lincoln's been doing the last many seasons. My two cents.

The show needs a change, BUT NOT LOSING ANDREW. Do they actually think when Andrew leaves they will be able to carry on? No, the ratings will drop so bad they will have to cancel the show.

At least without him they might be able to create something new... i don't trust the writing staff enough to actually be able to do this, but its possible.

Yeah. I think there's been dirty stuff going on, like with Chandler's exit. Lincoln has gotten pissed and this is why he's leaving too. So I cannot say I blame his decision. When people feel this urge to abandon a soon to be sinking ship, you just know something ain't right. The show has a great run, though, but too much of the last few seasons was so melodramatic.

I have a hard time calling TWD a "sinking ship" as its been at the bottom of the sea for four seasons now.
Pretty soon James Cameron will be excavating it.

IMO the show never recovered from the loss of Shane. I feel he was the real linchpin of the first two seasons, in that he had interpersonal conflicts with every primary character and a lot of events that occurred in those first two seasons were direct results of those conflicts. I think that killing him off, while necessary in the context of the story, was like chopping off your big toe. You can still walk, but your balance will never be the same.

Anyway, I'm fairly certain his return is going to be in the form of a flashback, and is going to play into why Rick leaves the show. But as much as I loved Shane, and dig Bernthal as an actor, I think it's too little, too late at this point.
