By definition, a zombie is someone who comes back from the dead - which in the case of both Rec and 28, both happen, so technically speaking, they are zombie films...

28 days etc isnt a zombie film, since it was from a rabib monkey it's a disease..hence why when the guy gets blood in his eye he turns, but doesn't die first

28 DAYS LATER refers to the disease as a man made virus. It was created by scientists who were looking for a way to prevent "rage" from being widespread among animals and later humans. You should check out the graphic novel if you get the chance. It's all explained in that.

If they all died, then yeah, I'd agree they were zombies, but not all of them died and in the 2nd it's clear they are possessed, so them being dead (or seemingly dead) originally is irrelevant since the infected are possessed by a demonic entity
