All I really remember about the radio my folks listened to at the time is the voice of Paul Harvey and KC Cason but KISS were like super heroes here and, at the time, my favorite show on TV was The Hulk.

A few years later, when we moved to "the city" and got stuff like cable TV and this channel called HBO that was on from about 4PM until midnight or so (true story) they had a special KISS concert. I waited for a night that my grandparents would be watching me and tuned in the concert, ready for some super hero action. My grandfather (also a minister) wasn't impressed but he humored me as I watched a little of the show. I didn't know what the hell this was but I didn't like it, lol.

Gene Simmons didn't spit fire, he started spitting blood. I kept waiting to hear something I recognized from the movie but nothing seemed right. For years I'd end up thinking I'd imagined watching this movie or dreamed it and just couldn't reconcile the difference between the super heroes and what I saw on HBO that night.
I guess you can say KISS is what turned me on to horror. My cousin introduced me to the world of KISS, and it was all over, lol. I was an official member of the "KISS Army". Best ever was when they all added a few drops of blood to the red ink for the first issue of their comic. How cool is that!

I was all about KISS, and wanted more. Then one day, my uncle took us to the movies. He took us to see, a then little known, movie called Creepshow. I fell into the world of horror and never looked back. Best experience ever for a nine year old kid.

Back then, though, ratings were strict. I had to get my uncle to rent movies for me. First video rental was Dawn of the Dead
