Such a fun flick...can't believe there are people that dislike it. To me, Poltergeist is one of those movies you can't help but like..sort of like Back To The Future, Star Wars, or an Indian Jones flick (not the last one).

I tried to watch this last week, but could not finish it. What an absurd film, shit just flies around in the room. A little girl gets imprisoned in a TV, and the government somehow never gets involved. Not to mention the living tree, the idiotic tornado, or any other absurdity thereof.

I love it, but I was 8 when it came out so it was one of the first I ever saw. That means I'm both biased and emotionally attached. Even so, as an adult trying to look at it objectively, I think the fact that it's aimed at the whole family is one of its strengths. It's a quality popcorn movie with a lot of themes and symbols to explore, not just a head roller. There aren't a lot of quality popcorn horror movies, or even quality popcorn movies, being made anymore. The acting was pretty good (except for the little boy), and some of the effects still hold up.

Having said all that, I'm perfectly willing to accept that the movie might seem cheesy to a younger person. People are way more cynical now than they were in the 80s.

P.S. The guy who wrote the Joblo article comes off as trying to be edgy for disliking something lots of people like.

I wholeheartedly disagree. That is one of my favorite movies. 1 and 2, where great but the 3rd one was a big mistake. They are remaking it for 2013.

Loved this movie, effects we're sweet and is one of the best ghost horror flicks!

I especially loved how you never truly saw the spirits; albeit you saw bits a piece, but that was about it. So it left up to the imagine to fill in the blanks. But that's just me.

Def. there are even a few scenes in pt 3 that are creepy... the Caroline reflection scene... and when Tom Skerrit walks down the hallway and all the doors in the Mirrors are open, and people are looking out

I'm sorry. This movie is overrated.

I like the movie, it's okay for what it is as a ghost flick, but I thought it could've been scarier or maybe they should've cut out enough stuff to make it "G" rated.

I love the face rip scene too, but I also kind of thought the effects went too ballistic when animating the ghosts...if anything, Ghostbusters is the best ghost movie in my opinion, but that's like comparing Fringe to Burn Notice.

This may sound strange to some of you, but this movie just didn't feel like something I'd rewatch over and over again, I remember the movie nicely and how much people spoofed off it, maybe they were aware that the movie was overrated as well, a lot of people who I know if never even realize Tobe Hooper directed the movie, they keep saying it was Spielberg, that's like with Tim Burton and A Nightmare Before Christmas it was Henry Sellick that directed it, but whatever.

Poltergiest isn't bad, but it's not THE greatest ghost movie, maybe the ghosts should've looked more scarier or the music, I don't know.

Tell you what, why don't I just search for a negative review of George A Romero's Dawn Of The Dead and copy and paste it under an inflammatory banner like "Dawn Of The Dead Is Shit"?

I wouldn't say "Poltergeist" sucks - it's a very well-made film. It just doesn't have a hold on me the way other horror classics do. This may be because I didn't see it until the ripe old age of 21 - so I don't have the nostalgic love for it that others do. I don't know. Zelda Rubenstein is awesome and the face-ripping scene was too, but I just couldn't get into this flick. -shrug-
