    Help. I'm a music snob.

I say that with tongue in cheek. I tend to respect a lot of music even if I don't like it, but my problems are twofold:

    I bore easily.
I love a good concept album/rock opera deal.

So I'm looking for some new music. Anything new. To get started, here's what I like.

My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Hit & Run Holiday sits atop them all. It's upbeat, switches genre with ease, and even tells a story about a girl named Krystal Starlust if you're listening close enough. Psychedelic surf jazz industrial rock disco. And it works. I want the last song on this album played at my funeral, even.

Devin Townsend Presents: Ziltoid: The Omniscient. All of it is metal, but it jumps through so many subgenres with so much ease that it's never stuck in one sound. Plus the story about a space alien who wants the perfect cup of coffee is absolutely what I like to hear. To a lesser degree, Cooked on Phonics is also still extremely awesome.

    Tell me a fun story.

Even barring that, the last two Chemlab albums (East Side Militia and Oxidizer) have a wonderful cyberpunk feel, with each song telling tales.

I have been accused of enjoying my music "very aggro." That's not 100% true. But it helps to be exciting.

    What I don't want:

Politics. Even if I agree with them - which I probably won't. That's just not fun.

Dimmu Borgir. It's all one sound, and I laughed at In Sorte Diaboli almost all the way through.

Too much whining. It's not deep that you can feel sad about everything. Getting off your ass and doing something is indescribably more profound. Go enjoy your life. Go make your life and your world a great place to be. Or STFU. Either works for me.

I'll answer more questions or take any albums / songs into consideration.

Coheed and Cambira. All of their albums tell one long story, which I can really only explain as being just as epic as Star Wars. With the last album they even included a full length novel that told that albums part of the story(They've been releasing comics for the rest of them.)

Try Devin Townsend's other project simply called Devin Townsend Project. The album is called Addicted and it's pretty damn catchy.

well if i had to give an option i would say. MR. Bungle (california) the album california is so amazing imo, its like the beach boys smoked crack learned a bit of metal and sat in an elevater for 2 hours writing wierd music. i love this album it is one of my favorite's as a musician you can pick up all the subtle things they did on it and the changes between genre's are amazing and insane at the same time. all in all this album has never failed to impress me in the 8 or so years i have owned it. now i will warn you, this album is not for everyone but if you like different kinds of music like i do and appreciate real musicianship then give it a listen and lemme know what you think.

    Thanks all.

Bungle is one of the very few Mike Patton projects that I didn't get absolutely excited about.

I have a couple of Savatage disks. Edge of Thorns is unfortunately one of them. I may have to go dig the other one out. (Handful of Rain.) It might save money. Or it might not.

Devin Townsend Project actually has two disks out: Ki and Addicted. Both excellent albums.

Oh, and cmurdur: Fuck Yeah Green Jellö. I have the old school, pre-lawsuit Cereal Killer on VHS, Cassette and cd. 333 on VHS and cd. And the new disk. I spent one summer laid up with a broken ankle, treating the Cereal Killer VHS like my own private gospel. (PS: Keenan and Carey did their best work with Green Jellö.)

Green Jellö put so much mythology around that first album that it also counts as the "goofy rock opera."

You two guys pegged me pretty well there.

So... thanks. I'll look into Coheed & Cambria, and Catherine Wheel. And I'll go blow the dust off of that Savatage disk.

I still think the greatest concept album of all time is Husker Du's Zen Arcade.

It's hard for me to think of anything in my library that would be a good fit for the parameters you gave.

Tried to make it purely the clean vocals of the Awesome Dan Swano, though the last songs aren't really 'clean'

Although they'd disliked the idea of their album being compared to a concept album (it even got an opera part), Mansun's 'Six' is definately worthwile to check out, just make sure you don't get they US edition as it's being cut in pieces and edited in a way that sucks. All tracks segues into another and it took me a few listens before I recognizes where one track started or finished.

The Cooper Temple Clause with 'See This Through and Leave' and 'Kick Up the Fire, and Let the Flames Break Loose' might interest you as well.

Epic songs with The Lake, The Murder Song, Panzer Attacker, Film-Maker, Been Training Dogs, Talking To A Brick Wall etc etc.

Both bands are a-politic, so no blabla save the world, peace and that kind of shit.

(Official clips of the bands on Youtube didn't work over here due legal reasons)
