Kept stabbing until everything that I seen was red

House. Came out in 1986 and comedic as much as horror but I dug it.

More thriller/satire than horror but if I remember right most of THE LAST SUPPER takes place in a house.

...we had a similar "restriction" on SICK BOY. There are a few scenes at an apartment, a restaurant and two short scenes in a dentist's office but otherwise 95% or more of the film all takes place in one house. For the short schedule we had and very limited budget we built our story around that to minimize potential waste.

One thing that helped was writing most of the action scenes in somewhat generic terms, based on what we assumed any house location would have. Then, once location was locked we could modify existing scenes to take advantage of the location's unique qualities. Like, for example, we knew we needed a two-story house and all of the spookiness was written so that the upstairs was basically verboten but the house we ended up using ended up being an "upside down" design, where you entered onto the "top" floor with stairways going down to the bedrooms and family areas.

We looked at a ton of houses and ended up actually using the house of the realtor that was showing us properties because it was the most unique of any she had access to. This was a service she ended up providing us at no cost, btw. This is our second feature and we've found you can actually get a lot of location value virtually free if you talk to folks. Of course, some parts of the country will obviously make this more difficult than others.

There's no way we could have gotten free locations were we making our films in California but in Austin, Texas there isn't this sense of cynicism dealing with anything film related, like the attitude that permeates Los Angeles, with everyone sticking their hand out and generally dealing with student and indie filmmakers the same as they would Paramount. On several occasions we got big locations for no fee, often with the understanding that we would pay for cleaning services when we were done and in the case of our house location we covered the electric bill for that month though we used the location for only a week-and-a-half.

Being friendly, enthusiastic and professional can get you access to places you might never imagine possible (you will need an insurance rider to cover your production). I mean, on our first film one of our major locations was a high school. We practically lived there a month and paid for some cleaning and striping to the football field that we used. We were lucky with the friendliness of the school and the principal to be sure (this went on to be the main high school location for all but the last two seasons of Friday Night Lights) but there's nice folks all over. You just gotta go look for them.

^ Thanks. That sounds like an excellent experience and was very helpful. Our biggest problem will be finding a house that we can trash or "messy up". I've put ads out looking for hoarders, but that's not the most.... uh... non-offensive way of trying to find what I'm looking for

My thought exactly. I dunno if it is still considered a horror flick,

Closet Land!!! If you havent seen it you should check it out. its a 1991 flick with only two actors (Alan Rickman and Madeleine Stowe) and only one location (a small room) and yet it kept me glued til the end. anyone else agree?

The people under the stairs. That movie was crazy. Lmao!
Castlefreak (not really a "house" but it was someone's home. Probably one of the only Fullmoon movies I actually enjoyed.)
Hard Candy (not really horror, probably more of a thriller)
Funny Games (more of a thriller as well.)
