Michael Jai White as Jax? Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade? Baraka and Reptile as homicidal maniacs? This footage from what looks to be the next Mortal Kombat game or movie trailer is brutal, disgusting, and perfect.

Reader Kev directed us to this video, featuring a realistic new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise that has more in common with movies like suspense and horror films like Seven and Saw than anything resembling the campy video game to film adaptations we've seen in the past.

Last we heard, Warner Bros. was looking to reboot the film franchise. If this is the fruit of that effort, we approve wholeheartedly.

More likely this could be a live-action trailer for the next game. Either way, we approve.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has indicated that the next game in the series would be shooting for an M rating. "People want an M-rated MK....dammit we will give them an M-rated MK." This would surely do the trick.

This is way too much star power for a fan project. We're digging around for more information. Considering the timing of this trailer, however, we expect we might hear more as E3 quickly approaches.

its the game, i doubt they'd make a 7 minute long trailer for the film like that, plus with e3 about a week away...

one has to wonder with all this retro 2d fighting game craze like Street Fighter using pseudo 3d, would mortal kombat ditch full 3d space Kombat in favor of a return to 2d, as well as maybe even going back to more of the original look of the franchise... a lot of questions, but this is the step in teh right direction for the franchise, especially after the average fan service that was MK vs DCU

however, i actually think this is almost a teaser of both a game and a movie. Warner Bros now owns midway, and has said they wanted to reboot the film franichse, and MK the game has needed the same treatment since coming to the next gen platforms.. so my guess is this a trailer for the game, but at the same time, should probably serve for whatever direction the next movie would be in as well.

I'll be the first to admit MK is not a great fighter, it peaked at 2 if you ask me. But that "trailer" had some sick production values behind it...hard not to get excited watching it

top secret world exclusive ps3 reveal and another exclusive reveal of a game thats an established fighting franchise and no we cant talk about how brilliant either is YET.

btw its not in covered that magazine like it suggest at the end, but lets be honest, it'd probably be in a mag that comes out after e3, i mean MK is a well known franchise, i'm sure they'd like to make their first big confirmation at E3.
