It was a strange movie. I liked it, but wasn't expecting some of the things that happened in that film. I went into it blind, and quite glad I did.

I pretty much did the same. I'd heard it being compared to Haute Tension (although I'm always very cynical of such comparisons), but knew nothing of what I was going to see when I first watched it.

Haute Tension is an absolutely fantastic movie, but I prefer Martyrs simply because it is more of an emotional gut-punch, though both are fine examples of the new French extremity.

I really like both films a lot, but I have to say that High Tension is my favorite between the two. Martyrs has more "to say," I suppose, but High Tension really delivers in terms of a good, well-rounded horror film.

Yeah, it only holds a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. It seems to be split between those who understand horror and those that don't.

I really liked "High Tension" but I loved "Martyrs".....such a great flick !!!

FINALLY found a couple of really quiet hrs in my house. Sat down and watched Martyr's a 2nd time. What a great movie!!!! I was doing some research and found that an American remake was in the works. What a croc of shit! We Americans are sucking at horror movies with all these remakes.

Both are great, but it is impossible for me to compare these two movies because they are different, the story is different, and I cannot do it just for the fact that both are French.

I thought Them was just okay at best when I saw it a couple years ago, but I do need to re-watch it.
