Steelba does have a point, 80's slashers were more focused on terror and trying to make true genuinely scary movies. Nowadays film makers try to make shit as gorey as possible, but don't really focus on the scare factor anymore. But I did love Hatchet and the second one is going to be good as well, but I'm going into it knowing it won't scare me, but going into it knowing it will be a cool film visually.

Which they didn't do with Hatchet
Back then the film makers tried to make the best films they could with there meager budgets, now they set out to make bad films. That is one of the biggest and most disappointing differences, which Hatchet illustrated brilliantly.

I just can't get behind boring movies with piss poor acting, and sluggish pacing. I'm also tired of hearing people call a film a throw back because the director said it was. Especially when it's clearly just post modern, poorly done, cheese.

Well, they don't make movies like they used to. I feel as though "horror" movies nowadays are just tributes to great movies back in the day. Although I liked Hatchet a lot, it's not a true scary slasher film. You can't compare Hatchet to movies like Alice Sweet Alice. Hatchet didn't take itself seriously and tried to be shitty on purpose. Most movies do nowadays and even though I like the movies they will still not be up to par with the 70's or 80's slashers. These new movies can have all the blood, gore, comedy, and shitty actors all they want. Like Steelba said, it can be an outrageously shitty movie and then the director gives the excuse "Well I made it that way on purpose." Well...why?

The real reason these movies are made to be shitty on purpose is because the director lacks the skill to make them good. I can just see em now, "well since I can't make a good film no matter how hard I try, i'll just make a shitty film and misrepresent it". It would be different had they actually put out a great or above average film in their careers, but they haven't.

Aja and Marshall are about the only ones making a consistently good product these days.

For as young as you both are you sure do sound like old farts. You're saying the same things that use to be said about horror films from the 70's & 80's. Kinda funny how that pattern repeats.

You got a point, granted in a way these directs are kinda right on what they say, i mean look at all the big slasher franchises. Halloween, friday the 13th, NOES, etc. All got campier as they went along. Then again I guess you could make the argument that those films lost the talent they started with as teh sequels kept popping out. Anyone can look at the original Friday, and Jason X and tell the only thing in common they have is the franchise they're built within.

That being said I'll be watching this. Hatchet is low brow stuff, but I enjoyed the first

Just got out from seeing this and it was awesome! The acting was ten fold better and the story was coherent. The gore was fantastic can't beat practical f/x. Overall I'd give this a solid 8/10 worth the price of admission

Same, I thought it needed a little more gore action, and I don't think the one part should've had CGI involved...SPOILER!!

    Spoiler...
When Victor Crowley smashes Santa Claus's head into the edge of the table, great blood squirt from the stump, but I didn't like how the other half of his head blinked, it was obvious CGI...didn't like that.

The characters were humorous, as was most of the death scenes...but it really could've been more darker as was the telling of Victor Crowley's origin and Kane Hodder's performance was great it truely was and you felt his character...One of Victor Crowley's kills however I thought was the worst one and most dumbest ever..but again it was just a fun flick...

    Spoiler...
    Chainsaw

And, by the look of the ending, which I'm not going to spoil, I would have to say by the way this film's walking I'd say Adam should stop it where it's at right now...before it turns lame and burned out, or if put into the right hands could settle for a franchise, but look at SAW...then again that franchise was focusing on the killer more than the victims and traps at the same time so they could leave it to others to do it. Still, unless it beats out Resident Evil 4 at the box office, I don't see another sequel coming.

People making it sound like all 80's horror were horrifying treats and masterpieces. I love 80's horror - it was what I grew up with, but a lot of the stuff I saw had terrible acting but a shitload of gore. A lot of movies were cheaply made gore mongers and that was the fun of it. I watched a lot of these flicks to see how nasty they slaughtered their prey, not because it was terrifying, but because it was fun as hell to watch some jackass cheesily get his head crushed from a single stomp of the killer's booted foot. Sure we got some Iconic horror out of it, but you can't say that all 80's horror are masterpieces. Just like any other time period, a lot of it was shit, but fun to watch.
I can't wait to see this movie...
