Finally caught this remake after delaying watching it for so long. Good flick. In some ways better than the original. I like both films in the end, though. Will have a more detailed review soon

This was my feeling too. I watched the original and then the remake about a day apart. I'd happily watch either again.

I thought the child performances in the remake, while still really good, were a little too studied compared to the original and lacked some of its innocence. I couldn't help but think, in the remake, these are kids with a lot more awareness and calculation where in the original they didn't once break from what felt legitimately like a child might react or behave. The kids in the remake, either simply because it's set in America or the experiences of the child actors themselves...you can see in their eyes they aren't as innocent.

There could maybe be no avoiding this though, because where are you going to find even 12yr olds, in America, in this day and age, that could possibly be as unaware and innocent as they might have been 20yrs prior in the 1980s themselves?

The remake, however, improved on the believability in Eli/Abbey's "Renfield". Almost every time he went about his job in the original I couldn't help but think, "this guy is a friggin' idiot, how is it that he hasn't been caught before now?" at which time I answer myself, "oh, because there are no police in Sweden, or at least no detectives or CSIs or anything but Officer Friendly candidates." Everything about how his character was handled I liked better in the remake...though his post acid-bath make-up was far better in the original. FFS, you don't gain mass when you burn flesh off your face.
