Recommendations for Asian Horror Movies

I love my Asian horror flicks, and am always looking for new ones to watch. Anyone have any they really like? I recommend "Heirloom" and "The Maid" as two of my new favs

I got burned out on J-Horror for a while, but two that stick out for me are "Re-Cycle" and "A Tale of Two Sisters".

I love Ringu, favourite series. Loved The Eye. Have seen the ones you recommended Fright And your Asian Horror Section is awesome, few I haven't seen in there. Add Audition to your list, that movie still makes me grin
And Tale of Two Sisters and Recycle were both really good too!!

Audition is good...

I like the bloody ones... Machine Gun Girl, Suicide Club, Tokyo Gore Police, Samurai Princess... etc...

First off, lets start with the obvious.
All of these movies have been remade by Hollywood (most ended up as crap) and are good starter films. All of these films are VERY good and five million times better then their American counter-parts.

- Ringu (although i consider this highly over-rated)
- Ju-On (the grudge)
- Shutter
- The Eye
- A Tale of Two Sisters
- Dark Water


Hidden Gems. These movies are not as well known by Americans as the above list, but in many cases they are better. These movies i would put on a top 50 list of all time favorate movies with many of them being in the top 20.

- Memories of Murder
- Battle Royale
- Audition
- Re-Cycle
- The Vengeance Trilogy (Korean, Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance/Lady Vengeance )
- Koma (Another fave. movie for me)
- Dorm
- 13: Game of Death
- Natural City (More Sci-Fi, Asian Blade Runner)
- Memento Mori / Wishing Stairs / Whispering Corridors



Great movies that are definitely worth watching but doubtful you will put them on a top XX list.

- Takashi Miike (Japanese)

Depends on your definition of Horror (actually, all listed movies do fall into the horror category given its definition).
Personally, im more terrified of what humans can realistically do to one another over a half invisible ghost or a boogy monster.

And youd be surprised at how many people have never seen Battle Royale and any of the trilogy beyond OldBoy.
