I found the movie boring for the most part. The animal cruelty aspect sux. I would rather see humans slaughtered (but not for real... of course) on the screen then see animals killed just to shock. And before I hear any of that femininity BS - I used to love hunting. Best memory ever was shooting that poor little Pheasant out of the sky with me trusty pump action shotgun. Sitting at the dinner table the same night eating that delicious bird flesh and spitting out the bird shot onto my plate. "p-ting, p-ting". But I didn;t torture the little bastard for profit and shock...

Quite a few folks watched this movie for the wrong reasons. If you watch any movie merely for the shock then you're just wasting your time and should probably stick to watching real-death compilations if that's all your looking for. It's understandable to an extent since the movie has had 3 decades of hype behind it, but all the same.
With that being said, no it's not just a shock film. It does go for shock, that much is clear by the animal-death footage but it is probably one of the more well written and executed exploitation films, as said before, especially for the cannibal sub-genre. Yes there is a chance you may not like it, but if you're curious about the movie you might as well watch it and get it over with instead of sitting around wondering.

Please I just don't give an F. They weren't really killing PEOPLE and in every major american movie in the John Wayne Era they killed the animals on screen for real. Nobody complains about the real snake killing in F13th. Or about all of the horses who's spines they broke filming those old movies. The modern american is vastly weaker than his predecessor.

Exactly. There are a ton of ultraviolent movies that are both intriguing and uncomfortable to watch. Cannibal Holocaust is a neither, I would consider it on par with Faces of Death because of the animal cruelty and just straight up Rape Porn for the rest of the storyline. Basically its a Lucifer Valentine movie.
