In your review you mentioned turning your brain off. If you do that then only the fanboy masturbation surface level of the film can likely be appreciated, if even recognized. It certainly does that better than any other film with such aspirations but that's not all that's there.

If someone can tell me what this film is about and still think it's not all that then fine. If not then I know how to interpret their criticism of the film. Admittedly, it's kinda a trick question.

The film obviously leaves a lot to interpretation, but I'll just detail my real short summary of it: A girl is forced to go to a mental asylum due to her abusive stepfather, where she dreams of escaping. This leads her to create an alternate reality that enables her to not only act out her fantasies, but also help her accomplish certain tasks in reality, which she might not've been able to otherwise.

None of the film represents a fantasy of Babydoll's. There are really only two parts of the film that even represent her reality, at most, and the second is actually more of an 3rd party corroboration of her reality since we can't reasonably still be seeing any of the story as her perception once the lobotomy is administered.

As I said, there's a lot left to the viewers own interpretation, but in the end, it's really nothing more than eye-candy. It's up to the viewer if they want to detail and analyze and make it much more complex than it really is. And I still dislike the story.

The "story" is the escape of a paranoid schizophrenic named Sweet Pea, told through her completely warped perception of reality, which is pretty badass to me (and not really complex at all) but, so be it.

Agreed, and that's pretty much the only thing worth watching the movie for. Aside from the hot leads, of course

Synder's work is all style and no substance, and I don't appreciate his style. He completely fucked up Dawn of the Dead, the dialogue was completely awful, and very childish. Not to mention he only seems to work with stereo tpyes for characterization. You could drive a train through the enormous plot holes, and there wasn't one shred of intelligence to be found in that film. Basically a complete bastardization of Romero's master work.

Then you have 300, that was visually striking, but very shallow, and completely lacked everything that made Gladiator great. Once again he packed it with stereo types.

I tried to sit through Watchmen but just ended up turning it off, after 35 minutes or so. There are a bunch of good superhero movies, but that isn't one of them..

I haven't bothered with this, but I know better than to go into anything Synder and expect a compelling story.

The trailer for this film was edited like an AMV, and screams style over substance yet again.

Many of the action sequences borrows a lot from anime, so there's no surprise there

But this is one of the few with the courage to go all-the-way with it though rather than just make a "mallcore" interpretation of anime-style action sequences. That it only cost $80-some-odd million in light of all the absolutely crap $100-200+Mil abortions is pretty astounding too.

Wow this BurnetRhoades guy is sticking up for Sucker Punch like it's a family member.

It's a great flick, but I also didn't like the story either. The ending was kind of meh as well. I'm a huge fan of Snyder, but this movie kind of came up short. I love all the fighting and dream sequences, but other than that it was what Steelba said, "All style and no substance" and that's coming from a HUGE fan of his work.

No, but he really wishes sometimes he'd discover movie discussion boards where actual discussion of the films beyond a few catch phrases was welcome. He wonders, sometimes, if anyone else ever thinks "why?" and not just the easy question of "what?".

BTW, there were no "dream sequences" in Sucker Punch.

Dream sequences is just a generic term to described his overloaded visuals. If the overpaid fool made more intellectual films he'd get the conversation he desires. Not many people of higher intellect are gonna watch his juvenile films.

When he runs around making generic, talentless, remakes, and comic adaptations, there is no wonder, and nothing 'intellectual' to discuss. He is just sour grapes that people don't over-appreciate his pedestrian works.

You say you only watched 35 minutes of Watchmen, and try to make it sound like it was generic when I was anything but. Yes it isn't as great as the actual comic, but Snyder did amazing work with it, and brought it to life better then anyone else could. I get your not a fan of the guy, but to but a broad spectrum on his work because you don't like him isn't fair. I liked DotD,300 and Watchmen, but thought this looked terrible and had no interest in it.

Hey I didn't like Watchmen even if you did. It wasn't good to me, and that's that. I thought The Dark Knight was fantastic, in comparison. Both modern superhero films, one is excellent, the other wasn't very good. I didn't see Watchmen blowing the doors of the awards shows, or breaking the box office, hell it couldn't even keep my attention.

It didn't have the noteriety of The Dark Knight... and I don't mind you saying you didn't like it, but to put an umbrella on his work isn't justification for a movie to be bad.

That umbrella is all i've seen from him. I understand that you're one of this boards biggest conformists and are his target audience, but that still doesn't make his work good intellectual property.

Like I said I will check out Sucker Punch and see what forms of deep life enriching meaning it has

Somehow he's got the idea that his authoritative opinion should just simply be accepted as fact. I'm still waiting for some reasonable foundation for why this is or consistent demonstration that he can even articulate why he has his opinions or why anyone should give a shit. Especially considering his (and other's) rudeness to anyone new.

10,895 versions of "because I said so," doesn't move me.
