Regardless, I'm not psyched about this. Seems remakes these days are more about money-grabbing than entertainment or a passion for horror (with a few exceptions). It's a sad state of affairs when 90% of major horror releases are remakes. I'd like to see someone adapt Barker's "The Damnation Game".
I've said it a million times, although some remakes are entertaining, I'd gladly trade in a dozen of them for one solid

I agree 100%!!!! This is why I stick to the foreign films for horror...they are the creators/originators of most, almost all, horror films that come out over here. I would kill to see an original idea! Actually i'd put my ass back into a theatre seat if one came out!

    or 50's 60's 70's 80's horror's I will watch.

You know, making the remake this way doesnt sound that bad at all. It would be easier to treat it as a stand-alone remake instead of just an obviously inferior carbon copy of the first film. Naming it "Hellbound Heart" instead of "Hellraiser" would enforce that thinking. I for one would like to see how the original leader of the cenobite group, "The Engineer" would look like.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but Hellraiser has been my favorite film for such a long time.

I've been following the news of this remake and was actually kind of hopeful for it. Clive Barker has always wanted to redo this film because he felt so slighted on the budget for the original. Plus there were elements (such as the Engineer) that simply didn't work out well in the original.

The biggest problems with this remake, in my opinion, are:

    1) Barker, being new to directing, brought something fresh and original to the project. Plus it was his baby, he knew exactly the story which to tell. I don't see this happening with another director -- especially if Hollywood does it's usual thing of brining in "names" to draw audience.
    2) Without Doug Bradly playing Pinhead, I just don't know how well this would work. That voice and gentle demeanor brought so much menace to the character. A remake would probably wind up making the character heavy handed with the rage and over the top with the killing.

Many of the comments in this thread are dead on. There was a sensuality to the Cenobites you couldn't deny. I'm sure Hollywood would figure out a way to muck that up. And you can't just do a new entry to the franchise because they've pretty proved they have nothing new to bring to the table. In fact, Hollywood has effectively killed the franchise.

With Barker being involved with the screenplay it could work out well, hopefully this will be more true to "The Hellbound Heart" which was a great book. We all love our repeat actors and want them to keep playing the parts that keep us coming back for more:
    Englund - Freddy
    Bell - Jigsaw
    Bradley - Pinhead

In the end, we'll see it anyway, regardless of who plays Pinhead, and his style will be compared to Bradley's for years.

I am a huge Hellraiser fan, I am currently reading the comic series which Barker is writing now. I will be interested in seeing this to see what he does differently.

Well, it's official, and Barker is writing it. He wrote this on his Facebook

"The idea of my coming back to the original film and telling the story with a fresh intensity-honoring the structure and the designs from the first incarnation but hopefully creating an even darker and richer film-was attractive to Dimension. Today I have officially been invited to write the script based upon that pitch."

Barker seems to have a very hands-on role in the film, as he claims his wish for a low-pixel count movie is being honored. "t will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER." And he's also having a say in casting: "Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed."
    http://badassdigest.com/2013/10/24/b...ker-is-writin/

So, Doug Bradley, practical effects and Barker writing

    I'm in.

I was talking to a "friend" of sorts about it today and he said he hated the idea of the same people doing a remake and Hellraiser has "queer bondage overtones" it haha. Ive never heard that one before.

I will watch it too. I wish more scripts for book to film adaptations were wrote by the authors. I think if Stephen King wrote screenplays for a lot of his book to film adaptations they would be a lot better,
