This is a South Korean drama that follows the up-and-down relationship a woman has with her mother. It's a good flick, but veers into familiar territory (especially for Korean cinema) at the half way mark, which loses some points for me. However, for the first half of the flick we're witness to a young girl, whom does everything with her mom, a teenager that's embarrassed of everything her mom does, and finally into a woman whom realizes just how special her mom has been to her.
Aside from the somewhat stereotypical direction the story took in the second half, I also had a problem with how the director decided to handle the brother in the story. The story only focuses on the relationship between the mother and daughter (understandable), but fail to show any sort of relationship with the son. How can she be a good mother if she seems to neglect her son entirely? Since we're not really shown much interaction between the two we can't gauge what kind of relationship she has with the son. If the director wanted to simply focus on the mom/daughter relationship, why have the son in the story at all?
Never-the-less, I enjoyed the flick for what it was and for what it accomplished -- telling the (happy) sad relationship a daughter has with her mother. The story has its funny, sweet, and even sad moments. Even though it offers a cliched outcome, I was moved getting there. 7/10 If anything, it'd be a good movie to watch on Mother's Day
