Aside from the obvious ones already mentioned, I'd like to note that Shawshank Redemption is one of my absolute favs. I also liked Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood and the underrated Felon

Story was OK but I found it a bit long and IMO dragged enough to make me dislike it.

I don't think American History X should be considered a prison movie. While it is a movie, with scenes taking place in prison, that's not the focus of the story.

It's 50/50

His growth as a person takes place in that prison, a vital part of the film, that's why I added it.

I thought the more recent prison film Felon was one of the better newer prison films out there.
