(Hong Kong) The Legend Is Born: Ip Man (2010)

This is the unofficial prequel to the IP Man films that starred Donnie Yen. Though an obvious attempt to cash in on the success of the previous films, this pic actually isn't all that bad. Not as good as the other two movies, but still offers some good fighting (wish there was more though). The story mostly follows IP Man around his teens/20s where he was still fairly unknown and became a very skilled student in Wing Chun.

Offering no real connection to the previous movies, the filmmakers opted to bring in some actors from the other movies to play different characters, which may prove confusing for those unaware of its unofficial connection. Never-the-less, fans of the IP Man movies will likely enjoy this flick, as it depicts him as a younger man and shows how he became what we've known as him -- a take-no-names ass-kickin' mutha F'er

Interesting note: The old dude on the top right of the poster is the eldest son of the real IP Man. He has a cameo in the film

loved the flick..watched a couple times,showing a few friends.I liked how Ip Man's character took many a beating before he became flawless in the arts of wing chun,as you see in Ip Man with Donnie Yen.... Ip Chun's character,Leung Bik was such an arrogant old man...almost remind me of Siu Tien Yuen as Sam the Seed,Beggar So and Su Hua Chi...good chit

Was quite weird seeing actors from Ip man 1 and 2 in this prequal....made things confusing at times.Over all...still a badass flick
