**Disclaimer for the review. I put this in the "Upcoming" forum because I have read it will be released in theaters although I highly doubt it. Most members here will be able to find this very easily if they want to right now.
Here is a very well done under the radar horror film that I found to be very good! Directed by Vincenzo Natali this flick has great atmosphere, acting (Abigail Breslin is excellent), and an overall feel that really drew me in.
The story starts off simple enough but it does get complicated but not to the point to where you are scratching your head. Under its many layers what you get is a more than a solid ghost story that is much more laid back than recent offerings like The Conjuring or Insidious: Chapter 2.
This takes a slow burn and makes it a little slower, however it does not detract from the movie whatsoever. Anyone in for a movie where you need to dedicate your full attention to it, don't expect flashy special effects or over the top-know they are coming jump scares this movie is perfect.
Friends of mine told me very good things about this one but I was skeptical until I was in the thick of it and found myself wanting to piece together what this movie was displaying before me.
The trailer is confusing and does a poor job of showing what the movie is about.
Here is a better synopsis about the film I found online. Don't read it if you want to go in blind.
Spoiler...Lisa Johnson is one day shy of her sixteenth birthday. And she will be forever. She and her family are dead and doomed to repeat that fateful last day before they were all killed in 1985. Only Lisa has "woken up" and realizes what is going on. She starts to feel as if she is being haunted, but the "ghost" turns out to be Olivia, a very much alive girl who lives in the house in the present day with her own family. With her help, Lisa discovers that the house once belonged to a serial killer who kidnapped teenage girls and burned their remains in a hidden furnace room. When he died, he became a Haunter - a powerful, evil spirit able to possess the living.
Bottom line is for those who enjoyed lower budget ceepy offerings like The Pact or Absentia (which I did not like) you simply have to give this one a try.
