It has been announced Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd. That they will co-produce Resident Evil: Damnation. Resident Evil: Damnation will be a 3D animated adventure, and sequel to Resident Evil: Degeneration. Resident Evil: Degeneration had a short theatrical run in Japan, making 40 million yen. The home video release shipped more than 1.6 million copies, making the film a hit.
The Resident Evil live action franchise has done well at the box office, with the first three films grossing over $370 million combined at the worldwide box office. So far Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the franchise, has made $71 million worldwide, so far.
Resident Evil: Damnation will feature Leon S. Kennedy as the main character, and will be released in 2012. The film will be directed by Makoto Kamiya (Resident Evil: Degeneration), and produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi (producer Resident Evil: Degeneration, associate producer Resident Evil: Afterlife and Resident Evil: Apocalypse).
