In defense of Zombie and Sheri..
I did read that they are like, in love love. To the point where they are almost a high school couple. They giggle and laugh with one another and REALLY love each other. I do give them props for finding each other and they seem like a great couple. But, with that being said
Your wife sucks at acting Rob.

I read like, the last three pages here, and you guys are waaay too uppity and cynical. I just finished it and I enjoyed it. The soundtrack might have been a little pretentious, but I didn't mind. Great cinematography, and bizarre, almost hypnotic visuals to match. It definitely wasn't as brutal as his past movies, but probably because it would just be laughable if they turned into slashers or something.
And ya know what, it's a return to form. None of those sparkly sweet, model-figured Emma Watson witches. It's just old decrepit witches blaspheming and cackling like the crones they are.

God hates The Lords of Salem, and so do I. The film started out good, suspenseful and slowly drawing me in. It had some good, creepy, quick images of one of the witches reappearing in Sheri Moon's apartment, reminiscent of Carpenter's style in making Halloween. But the film got slow and draggy. And some of the scary scenes turned out to be dreams or hallucinations, which took away from their impact. There were some great bizarre images near the end, but they weren't worth waiting for. Not a recommendable film. There were some good shots of Sheri Moon's naked butt, though.
I think RZ could make a good horror film if he realizes the films don't have to be mostly shock and gore, or all quiet and slow-paced, like Lords was. Just find a balance between the two.

Ugh. This was an ordeal to get through.
Not only was it boring, but RZ's 'try-hard' mentality continued to reign throughout. Everything (especially the dialogue) felt so forced and spliced in to provoke a 'Look at this! Listen at this!' kind of aesthetic, rather than a flowing, involving experience. A lot like QT, RZ has this 'trying to be cool' outlook when making films, but unlike QT, Zombie can't write dialogue for shit.
Even the surrealism just felt like it was something lifted out of, or created for a music video. Yes, it looked quite 'pretty' in places, and some of the scenes would naturally look good as a stand-alone image or short scene... which makes me think that Zombie should of perhaps taken up making shorts before directing feature length films to get all this shit out of his system. TLoS is certainly a slight shift from his other work, but he continues to show absolutely no maturity as a director.
Overall: Very disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.

Finished it.
Don't think it was as terrible as every one says. Some of it was kind of strange and it did feel like he was trying a bit too hard to shock people, but that's what he does and always will. I did like some of the weird images going on at the end. I would have liked more witches. I really wanted a good witch movie, but this was not it. I still enjoyed it though.

I liked it, I also think it is not as bad as many say, I enjoyed it for what it is. I respect Rob Zombie to put all his visual imagery in a film, which at times limps but always results entertaining.

There's so many pages on here that it will take all night to get through, but I do wonder, seeing as I've read comments commenting on how people hated it, how did it get such high praise during the film convention circuit only to be panned by everyone else?
I, for one, enjoyed it for a few reasons. The music was probably the best I've ever heard in a movie. It's going to be a shame that it won't get nominated anywhere. I truly think that was the best part of the movie. I also loved the way the style was, as I do believe it was going for the artistic feel and I enjoyed it. I was sick of the white trash that is always thrown in his movies, so this was a pleasant surprise. Lastly, for all the Sherri hate, Rob isn't the only director that does it. Ask Jude Aptow. You got a hot wife, you flaunt her. I was surprised, knowing she had a butt double in Rejects, that she was nude all those times. Got to wonder if it was her.
But yeah, there was some WTF moments, like the creature and other scenes, but knowing that it was rushed and they had to change thanks on the fly thanks to budgeting, it makes sense. I'll always support Zombie and this wasn't his worst. Still loved House a lot more, but this was a nice change of pace.

I think you are kind of answering your own question. Music the best part of a horror movie (or any movie for that matter)? If music is the best part of the movie that doesn't say much.
As far as people liking or hating it...it is currently a lowly 6.3 user score on Metacritic.
