The best laugh was unintentional I think, When the baseball coach gets a pop shot at him from a vending machine straight at his head!

To me far from scary since i have seen it at least once a week till I was about 16 or so and I burned through two VHS copies... (Didn't have a lot to do but watch movies and smoke and my dad was cheap and would not by a lot of movies...) the 1986 version goes in my pile of greatest movies ever made!

I don't know why I'm surprised they're remaking this. Maximum Overdrive isn't good, but I like it a lot. I wish they'd put out an uncut version. I remember Joe Bob Briggs talking about the steamroller scene on TNT's MonsterVision:
http://www.angelfire.com/mn/nn/Maximum.htmlStephen King's original idea was to make it raw and vulgar and hard-driving, which is why he chose AC/DC for the soundtrack. But most of his great splatter effects had to come out. Like, remember the scene at the beginning where the steamroller goes wild on the Little League field? Well, one day they were setting up the shot where the steamroller mows down one of the Little Leaguers, and they had a dummy all set to be flattened. And at the last minute, Steve said to the special effects guy, "Gimme one of those blood bags." And they went over and put a blood bag on the body. He was hoping that after the steamroller finished running over the body, there would be this great dramatic streak of blood on the equipment. But what it did instead is that it made it look like the kid's head exploded. So Steve was so happy with the footage that he called up his friend George Romero, director of Night of the Living Dead, and he sent him a video of the footage, and Romero got sick watching it. He had to look away. And so Steve was very proud of himself. But the MPAA ratings board was not impressed. They told him to take that out, along with a couple other gore effects, and tone the whole thing down, or else he didn't have a chance of getting an R rating. So all the good stuff had to come out. I think I should be on the ratings board, then we'd get some decent movies made. Okay, I'll shut up now, because I know you're dying to get back to the story--all three of you. Roll it.
I really miss MonsterVision.

I hold this movie near and dear to my heart. It was one of the first horror movies I saw - that I can remember. (My parents trained me early. LOL) Also, Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. I can't see them doing this movie justice. The orginial wasn't the best and it's certainly not the worst. Just a horror classic. I am totally against this being remade.

How can you remake a shitty movie into an even worse shitty movie? CGI trucks!
