Outrage marks Beat Takeshi's (aka Takeshi Kitano) return to the yakuza role, after last having directed and starred in 2000's Brother. Just caught the flick earlier and I thought it was pretty good. It's unique in a way that it doesn't necessarily follow the standard yakuza/gangster formula of simply watching some low-bit gangster rise through the ranks. Although it does contain minor bits of that, the story essentially depicts a violent chessmatch between various families, with the chairman of a powerful yakuza organization tricking his subordinates and underbosses to take out each other.
Would've liked to have seen things turn out differently towards the end, but a sequel is in the works, so I'm hoping I'll see the climax I was looking for in that one. Worth a check if you're a fan of Takeshi's work or if you're big on yakuza flicks (like I am). 7/10
